Freedom For All, Foreword

Public opinion will not long endure a theory which does not work in practice. Today, probably more than ever before, man demands proof of the truth of even his highest ideal. For ultimate satisfaction man must find a principle which is for him a way of life, a principle which he can experience as true.

I believe I have discovered just such a principle in the greatest of all sacred writings, the Bible. Drawn from my own mystical illumination, this book reveals the truth buried within the stories of the old and new testaments alike.

Briefly, the book states that consciousness is the one and only reality, that consciousness is the cause and manifestation is the effect. It draws the reader’s attention to this fact constantly, that the reader may always keep first things first.

Having laid the foundation that a change of consciousness is essential to bring about any change of expression, this book explains to the reader a dozen different ways to bring about such a change of consciousness.

This is a realistic and constructive principle that works. The revelation it contains, if applied, will set you free.

Chapter 1

HEAR, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord.
Hear, O Israel:
Hear, O man made of the very substance of God:
You and God are one and undivided!
Man, the world and all within it are conditioned states
of the unconditioned one, God.
You are this one;
you are God conditioned as man.
All that you believe God to be, you are;
but you will never know this to be true
until you stop claiming it of another,
and recognize this seeming other to be yourself.
God and man,
spirit and matter,
the formless and the formed,
the creator and the creation,
the cause and the effect,
your Father and you are one.
This one, in whom all conditioned states live and move
and have their being,
is your I AM,
your unconditioned consciousness.

Unconditioned consciousness is God, the one and only reality. By unconditioned consciousness is meant a sense of awareness; a sense of knowing that I AM apart from knowing who I AM; the consciousness of being, divorced from that which I am conscious of being.

I AM aware of being man, but I need not be man to be aware of being. Before I became aware of being someone, I, unconditioned awareness, was aware of being, and this awareness does not depend upon being someone. I AM self-existent, unconditioned consciousness; I became aware of being someone; and I shall become aware of being someone other than this that I am now aware of being; but I AM eternally aware of being whether I am unconditioned formlessness or I am conditioned form.

As the conditioned state, I (man), might forget who I am, or where I am, but I cannot forget that I AM.

This knowing that I AM, this awareness of being, is the only reality.

This unconditioned consciousness, the I AM, is that knowing reality in whom all conditioned states – conceptions of myself – begin and end, but which ever remains the unknown knowing being when all the known ceases to be.

All that I have ever believed myself to be, all that I now believe myself to be, and all that I shall ever believe myself to be, are but attempts to know myself – the unknown, undefined reality.

This unknown knowing one, or unconditioned consciousness, is my true being, the one and only reality. I AM the unconditioned reality conditioned as that which I believe myself to be. I AM the believer limited by my beliefs, the knower defined by the known.

The world is my conditioned consciousness objectified.

That which I feel and believe to be true of myself is now projected in space as my world.

The world – my mirrored self – ever bears witness of the state of consciousness in which I live.

There is no chance or accident responsible for the things that happen to me or the environment in which I find myself. Nor is predestined fate the author of my fortunes or misfortunes. Innocence and guilt are mere words with no meaning to the law of consciousness, except as they reflect the state of consciousness itself.

The consciousness of guilt calls forth condemnation. The consciousness of lack produces poverty.

Man everlastingly objectifies the state of consciousness in which he abides but he has somehow or other become confused in the interpretation of the law of cause and effect.

He has forgotten that it is the inner state which is the cause of the outer manifestation – “As within, so without” [“Correspondence”, the second of The Seven Principles of Hermes Trismegistus] – and in his forgetfulness he believes that an outside God has his own peculiar reason for doing things, such reasons being beyond the comprehension of mere man; or he believes that people are suffering because of past mistakes which have been forgotten by the conscious mind; or, again, that blind chance alone plays the part of God.

One day man will realize that his own I AM-ness is the God he has been seeking throughout the ages, and that his own sense of awareness – his consciousness of being – is the one and only reality.

The most difficult thing for man to really grasp is this: That the “I AM-ness” in himself is God. It is his true being or Father state, the only state he can be sure of. The Son, his conception of himself, is an illusion. He always knows that he IS, but that which he is, is an illusion created by himself (the Father) in an attempt at self-definition.

This discovery reveals that all that I have believed God to be I AM.

“I AM the resurrection and the life” [John 11:25] is a statement of fact concerning my consciousness, for my consciousness resurrects or makes visibly alive that which I am conscious of being

“I AM the door [John 10:2, 10:7, 10:9]… all that ever came before me are thieves and robbers” [John 10:8] shows me that my consciousness is the one and only entrance into the world of expression; that by assuming the consciousness of being or possessing the thing which I desire to be or possess is the only way by which I can become it or possess it; that any attempt to express this desirable state in ways other than by assuming the consciousness of being or possessing it, is to be robbed of the joy of expression and possession.

“I AM the beginning and the end” [Revelation 1:8, 22:13] reveals my consciousness as the cause of the birth and death of all expression.

“I AM hath sent me” [Exodus 3:14] reveals my consciousness to be the Lord which sends me into the world in the image and likeness of that which I am conscious of being to live in a world composed of all that I am conscious of.

“I AM the Lord, and there is no God beside Me” [Isaiah 45:5] declares my consciousness to be the one and only Lord and beside my consciousness there is no God.

“BE still and know that I AM God” [Psalm 46:10] means that I should still the mind and know that consciousness is God.

“Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain” [Exodus 20:7], “I AM the Lord: that is My Name” [Isaiah 42:8]. Now that you have discovered your I AM, your consciousness to be God, do not claim anything to be true of yourself that you would not claim to be true of God, for in defining yourself, you are defining God.

That which you are conscious of being is that which you have named God. God and man are one. You and your Father are one [John 10:30].

Your unconditioned consciousness, or I AM, and that which you are conscious of being, are one.

The conceiver and the conception are one. If your conception of yourself is less than that which you claim as true of God, you have robbed God [see Philippians 2:6], the Father, because you (the Son or conception) bear witness of the Father or conceiver. Do not take the magical Name of God, I AM, in vain for you will not be held guiltless; you must express all that you claim yourself to be.

Name God by consciously defining yourself as your highest ideal.

Chapter Two
Freedom For All

It cannot be stated too often that consciousness is the one and only reality, for this is the truth that sets man free.

This is the foundation upon which the whole structure of biblical literature rests. The stories of the Bible are all mystical revelations written in an Eastern symbolism which reveals to the intuitive the secret of creation and the formula of escape. The Bible is man’s attempt to express in words the cause and manner of creation. Man discovered that his consciousness was the cause or creator of his world, so he proceeded to tell the story of creation in a series of symbolical stories known to us today as the Bible.

To understand this greatest of books you need a little intelligence and much intuition – intelligence enough to enable you to read the book, and intuition enough to interpret and understand what you read.

You may ask why was the Bible written symbolically. Why was it not written in a clear, simple style so that all who read it might understand it? To these questions I reply that all men speak symbolically to that part of the world which differs from their own.

The language of the West is clear to us of the West, but it is symbolic to the East; and vice versa. An example of this can be found in the Easterner’s instruction: “If thine hand offend thee, cut it off” [Mark 9:43]. He speaks of the hand, not as the hand of the body, but as any form of expression, and thereby he warns you to turn from that expression in your world which is offensive to you. At the same time the man of the West would unintentionally mislead the man of the East by saying: “This bank is on the rocks.” For the expression “on the rocks” to the Westerner is equivalent to bankruptcy while a rock to an Easterner is a symbol of faith and security. “I will like him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock; and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock” [Matthew 7:24,25].

To really understand the message of the Bible you must bear in mind that it was written by the Eastern mind and therefore cannot be taken literally by those of the West. Biologically, there is no difference between the East and the West. Love and hate are the same; hunger and thirst are the same; ambition and desire are the same; but the technique of expression is vastly different.

The first thing you must discover if you would unlock the secret of the Bible, is the meaning of the symbolic name of the creator which is known to all as Jehovah. This word “Jehovah” is composed of the four Hebrew letters – JOD HE VAU HE. The whole secret of creation is concealed within this name.

The first letter, JOD, represents the absolute state or consciousness unconditioned; the sense of undefined awareness; that all inclusiveness out of which all creation or conditioned states of consciousness come.

In the terminology of today JOD is I AM, or unconditioned consciousness.

The second letter, HE, represents the only begotten Son, a desire, an imaginary state. It symbolizes an idea; a defined subjective state or clarified mental picture.

The third letter, VAU, symbolizes the act of unifying or joining the conceiver (JOD), the consciousness desiring to the conception (HE), the state desired, so that the conceiver and the conception become one.

Fixing a mental state, consciously defining yourself as the state desired, impressing upon yourself the fact that you are now that which you imagined or conceived as your objective, is the function of VAU. It nails or joins the consciousness desiring to the thing desired. The cementing or joining process is accomplished subjectively by feeling the reality of that which is not yet objectified.

The fourth letter, HE, represents the objectifying of this subjective agreement. The JOD HE VAU makes man or the manifested world (HE), in the image and likeness of itself, the subjective conscious state. So the function of the final HE is to objectively bear witness to the subjective state JOD HE VAU.

Conditioned consciousness continually objectifies itself on the screen of space.

The world is the image and likeness of the subjective conscious state which created it.

The visible world of itself can do nothing; it only bears record of is creator, the subjective state. It is the visible Son (HE) bearing witness of the invisible Father, Son and Mother – JOD HE VAU – a Holy Trinity which can only be seen when made visible as man or manifestation.

Your unconditioned consciousness (JOD) is your I AM which visualizes or imagines a desirable state (HE), and then becomes conscious of being that state imagined by feeling and believing itself to be the imagined state. The conscious union between you who desire and that which you desire to be, is made possible through the VAU, or your capacity to feel and believe.

Believing is simply living in the feeling of actually being the state imagined – by assuming the consciousness of being the state desired. The subjective state symbolized as JOD HE VAU then objectifies itself as HE, thereby completing the mystery of the creator’s name and nature, JOD HE VAU HE (Jehovah).

JOD is to be aware; HE is to be aware of something; VAU is to be aware as, or to be aware of being that which you were only aware of. The second HE is your visible objectified world which is made in the image and likeness of the JOD HE VAU, or that which you are aware of being.

“And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness” [Genesis 1:26]. Let us, JOD HE VAU make the objective manifestation (HE) in our image, the image of the subjective state.

The world is the objectified likeness of the subjective conscious state in which consciousness abides.

This understanding that consciousness is the one and only reality is the foundation of the Bible.

The stories of the Bible are attempts to reveal in symbolic language the secret of creation as well as to show man the one formula to escape from all of his own creations.

This is the true meaning of the name of Jehovah, the name by which all things are made and without which there is nothing made that is made John 1:3].

First, you are aware; then you become aware of something; then you become aware as that which you were aware of; then you behold objectively that which you are aware of being.

Chapter Three
Freedom For All

Let us take one of the stories of the Bible and see how the prophets and writers of old revealed the story of creation by this strange Eastern symbolism.

We all know the story of Noah and the Ark; that Noah was chosen to create a new world after the world was destroyed by the flood.

The Bible tells us that Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth [Genesis 6:10].

The first son is called Shem, which means name. Ham, the second son, means warm, alive. The third son is called Japheth, which means extension. You will observe that Noah and his three sons Shem, Ham and Japheth contain the same formula of creation as does the divine name of JOD HE VAU HE.

Noah, the Father, the conceiver, the builder of a new world is equivalent to the JOD, or unconditioned consciousness, I AM. Shem is your desire; that which you are conscious of; that which you name and define as your objective, and is equivalent to the second letter in the divine name (HE). Ham is the warm, live state of feeling, which joins or binds together consciousness desiring and the thing desired, and is therefore equivalent to the third letter in the divine name, the VAU. The last son, Japheth, means extension, and is the extended or objectified state bearing witness of the subjective state and is equivalent to the last letter in the divine name, HE.

You are Noah, the knower, the creator.

The first thing you beget is an idea, an urge, a desire, the word, or your first son Shem (name).

Your second son Ham (warm, alive) is the secret of FEELING by which you are joined to your desire subjectively so that you, the consciousness desiring, become conscious of being or possessing the thing desired.

Your third son, Japheth, is the confirmation, the visible proof that you know the secret of creation.

He is the extended or objectified state bearing witness of the invisible or subjective state in which you abide.

In the story of Noah it is recorded that Ham saw the secrets of his Father [Genesis 9:22], and, because of his discovery, he was made to serve his brothers, Shem and Japheth [9:25]. Ham, or feeling, is the secret of the Father, your I AM, for it is through feeling that the consciousness desiring is joined to the thing desired.

The conscious union or mystical marriage is made possible only through feeling.

It is feeling which performs this heavenly union of Father and Son, Noah and Shem, unconditioned consciousness and conditioned consciousness.

By performing this service, feeling automatically serves Japheth, the extended or expressed state, for there can be no objectified expression unless there is first a subjective impression.

To feel the presence of the thing desired, to subjectively actualize a state by impressing upon yourself, through feeling, a definite conscious state is the secret of creation.

Your present objectified world is Japheth which was made visible by Ham. Therefore Ham serves his brothers Shem and Japheth, for without feeling which is symbolized as Ham, the idea or thing desired (Shem) could not be made visible as Japheth.

The ability to feel the unseen, the ability to actualize and make real a definite subjective state through the sense of feeling is the secret of creation, the secret by which the word or unseen desire is made visible – is made flesh [John 1:14]. “And God calleth things that be not as though they were” [Romans 4:17].

Consciousness calls things that are not seen as though they were, and it does this by first defining itself as that which it desires to express, and second by remaining within the defined state until the invisible becomes visible.

Here is the perfect working of the law according to the story of Noah. This very moment you are aware of being. This awareness of being, this knowing that you are, is Noah, the creator.

Now with Noah’s identity established as your own consciousness of being, name something that you would like to possess or express; define some objective (Shem), and with your desire clearly defined, close your eyes and feel that you have it or are expressing it.

Don’t question how it can be done; simply feel that you have it.

Assume the attitude of mind that would be yours if you were already in possession of it so that you feel that it is done.

Feeling is the secret of creation.

Be as wise as Ham and make this discovery that you too may have the joy of serving your brothers Shem and Japheth; the joy of making the word or name flesh.

Chapter Four

The secret of feeling or the calling of the invisible into visible states is beautifully told in the story of Isaac blessing his second son Jacob by the belief, based solely upon feeling, that he was blessing his first son Esau [Genesis 27:1-35].

It is recorded that Isaac, who was old and blind, felt that he was about to leave this world and wishing to bless his first son Esau before he died, sent Esau hunting for savory venison with the promise that upon his return from the hunt he would receive his father’s blessing.

Now Jacob, who desired the birthright or right to be born through the blessing of his father, overheard his blind father’s request for venison and his promise to Esau. So, as Esau went hunting for the venison, Jacob killed and dressed a kid of his father’s flock.

Placing the skins upon his smooth body to give him the feel of his hairy and rough brother Esau, he brought the tastily prepared kid to his blind father Isaac. And Isaac who depended solely upon his sense of feel mistook his second son Jacob for his first son Esau, and pronounced his blessing on Jacob. Esau on his return from the hunt learned that his smooth-skinned brother Jacob had supplanted him so he appealed to his father for justice; but Isaac answered and said, “Thy brother came with subtlety and hath taken away thy blessing [27:35]. I have made him thy Lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants [27:37].”

Simple human decency should tell man that this story cannot be taken literally. There must be a message for man hidden somewhere in this treacherous and despicable act of Jacob! The hidden message, the formula of success buried in this story was intuitively revealed to the writer in this manner. Isaac, the blind father, is your consciousness; your awareness of being.

Esau, the hairy son, is your present objectified world – the rough or sensibly felt; the present moment; the present environment; your present conception of yourself; in short, the world you know by reason of your objective senses. Jacob, the smooth-skinned lad, the second son, is your desire or subjective state, an idea not yet embodied, a subjective state which is perceived and sensed but not objectively known or seen; a point in time and space removed from the present. In short, Jacob is your defined objective. The smooth-skinned Jacob – or subjective state seeking embodiment or the right of birth – when properly felt or blessed by his father (when consciously felt and fixed as real), becomes objectified; and in so doing he supplants the rough, hairy Esau, or the former objectified state. Two things cannot occupy a given place at one and the same time, and so as the invisible is made visible, the former visible state vanishes.

Your consciousness is the cause of your world. The conscious state in which you abide determines the kind of world in which you live. Your present concept of yourself is now objectified as your environment, and this state is symbolized as Esau, the hairy, of sensibly felt; the first son. That which you would like to be or possess is symbolized as your second son, Jacob, the smooth-skinned lad who is not yet seen but is subjectively senses and felt, and will, if properly touched, supplant his brother Esau, or your present world.

Always bear in mind the fact that Isaac, the father of these two sons, or states, is blind. He does not see his smooth-skinned son Jacob; he only feels him.

And through the sense of feeling he actually believes Jacob, the subjective, to be Esau, the real, the objectified.

You do not see your desire objectively; you simply sense it (feel it) subjectively.

You do not grope in space after a desirable state. Like Isaac, you sit still and send your first son hunting by removing your attention from your objective world.

Then in the absence of your first son, Esau, you invite the desirable state, your second son, Jacob, to come close so that you may feel it. “Come close, my son, that I may feel you” [27:21]. First, you are aware of it in your immediate environment; then you draw it closer and closer and closer until you sense it and feel it in your immediate presence so that it is real and natural to you

. “If two of you shall agree on earth as touching on any point that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father, Which is in heaven” [Matthew 18:19].

The two agree through the sense of feel; and the agreement is established on earth – is objectified; is made real.

The two agreeing are Isaac and Jacob – you and that which you desire; and the agreement is made solely on the sense of feeling.

Esau symbolizes your present objectified world whether it be pleasant or otherwise.

Jacob symbolizes any and every desire of your heart.

Isaac symbolizes your true self – with your eyes closed to the present world – in the act of sensing and feeling yourself to be or to possess that which you desire to be or to possess.

The secret of Isaac – the sensing, feeling state – is simply the act of mentally separating the sensibly felt (your present physical state) from the insensibly felt (that which you would like to be).

With the objective senses tightly shut Isaac made, and you can make the insensibly felt (the subjective state) seem real or sensibly known, for faith is knowledge.

Knowing the law of self-expression, the law by which the invisible is made visible, is not enough.

It must be applied; and this is the method of application.

First: Send your first son Esau – your present objectified world or problem – hunting. This is accomplished simply by closing your eyes and taking your attention away from the objectified limitations. As your senses are removed from your objective world, it vanishes from your consciousness or goes hunting

. Second: With your eyes still closed and your attention removed from the world round about you, consciously fix the natural time and place for the realization of your desire.

With your objective senses closed to your present environment you can sense and feel the reality of any point in time or space, for both are psychological and can be created at will.

It is vitally important that the natural time-space condition of Jacob, that is, the natural time and place for the realization of your desire be first fixed in your consciousness.

If Sunday is the day on which the thing desired is to be realized, then Sunday must be fixed in consciousness now.

Simply begin to feel that it is Sunday until the quietness and naturalness of Sunday is consciously established.

You have definite associations with the days, weeks, months and seasons of the year. You have said time and again “Today feels like Sunday, or Monday, or Saturday; or this feels like Spring, or summer, or Fall, or Winter.” This should convince you that you have definite, conscious impressions that you associate with the days, weeks, and seasons of the year.

Then because of these associations you can select any desirable time, and by recalling the conscious impression associated with such time, you can make a subjective reality of that time now.

Do the same with space. If the room in which you are seated is not the room in which the thing desired would be naturally placed or realized, feel yourself seated in the room or place where it would be natural. Consciously fix this time space impression before you start the act of sensing and feeling the nearness, the reality, and the possession of the thing desired. It matters not whether the place desired be ten thousand miles away or only next door, you must fix in consciousness the fact that right where you are seated is the desired place.

You do not make a mental journey; you collapse space. Sit quietly where you are and make “there-ness” – “here-ness.” Close your eyes and feel that the very place where you are is the place desired; feel and sense the reality of it until you are consciously impressed with this fact, for your knowledge of this fact is based solely on your subjective sensing.

Third: In the absence of Esau (the problem) and with the natural time-space established, you invite Jacob (the solution) to come and fill this space – to come and supplant his brother.

In your imagination see the thing desired. If you cannot visualize it, sense the general outline of it; contemplate it. Then mentally draw it close to you. “Come close, my son, that I may feel you.”

Feel the nearness of it; feel it to be in your immediate presence; feel the reality and solidity of it; feel it and see it naturally placed in the room in which you are seated; feel the thrill of actual accomplishment, and the joy of possession.

Now open your eyes. This brings you back to the objective world – the rough or sensibly felt world. Your hairy son Esau has returned from the hunt and by his very presence tells you that you have been betrayed by your smooth-skinned son Jacob – the subjective, psychologically felt.

But, like Isaac, whose confidence was based upon the knowledge of this changeless law, you too will say – “I have made him thy Lord and all his brethren have I given to him for servants”.

That is, even though your problems appears fixed and real, you have felt the subjective, psychological state to be real to the point of receiving the thrill of that reality; you have experienced the secret of creation for you have felt the reality of the subjective.

You have fixed a definite psychological state which in spite of all opposition or precedent will objectify itself, thereby fulfilling the name of Jacob – the supplanter.

Here are a few practical examples of this drama.

First: The blessing or making a thing real.

Sit in your living room and name a piece of furniture, rug or lamp that you would like to have in this particular room. Look at that area of the room where you would place it if you had it. Close your eyes and let all that now occupies that area of the room vanish. In your imagination see this area as empty space – there is absolutely nothing there. Now begin to fill this space with the desired piece of furniture; sense and feel that you have it in this very area, imagine you are seeing that which you desired to see. Continue in this consciousness until you feel the thrill of possession.

Second. The blessing or the making of a place real.

You are now seated in your apartment in New York City, contemplating the joy that would be yours if you were on an ocean liner sailing across the great Atlantic. “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am there ye may be also” [John 14:2-3]. Your eyes are closed; you have consciously released the New York apartment and in its place you sense and feel that you are on an ocean liner. You are seated in a deck chair; there is nothing round you but the vast Atlantic. Fix the reality of this ship and ocean so that in this state you can mentally recall the day when you were seated in your New York apartment dreaming of this day at sea. Recall the mental picture of yourself seated there in New York dreaming of this day. In your imagination see the memory picture of yourself back there in your New York apartment. If you succeed in looking back on your New York apartment without consciously returning there, then you have successfully prepared the reality of this voyage.

Remain in this conscious state feeling the reality of the ship and the ocean; feel the joy of this accomplishment – then open your eyes.

You have gone and prepared the place; you have fixed a definite psychological state and where you are in consciousness there you shall be in body also.

Third: The blessing or making real of a point in time.

You consciously let go of this day, month or year, as the case may be, and you imagine that it is now that day, month or year which you desire to experience. You sense and feel the reality of the desired time by impressing upon yourself the fact that it is now accomplished. As you sense the naturalness of this time, you begin to feel the thrill of having fully realized that which before you started this psychological journey in time you desired to experience at this time.

With the knowledge of your power to bless you can open the doors of any prison – the prison of illness or poverty or of a humdrum existence.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound” [Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18].

Chapter Five

“Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day their shall be to you an holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord” [– Exodus 31:15, Leviticus 23:3]

These six days are not twenty-four-hour periods of time.

They symbolize the psychological moment a definite subjective state is fixed.

These six days of work are subjective experiences, and consequently cannot be measured by sidereal time, for the real work of fixing a definite psychological state is done in consciousness.

The time spent in consciously defining yourself as that which you desire to be is the measure of these six days.

A change of consciousness is the work done in these six creative days; a psychological adjustment, which is measured not by sidereal time but by actual (subjective) accomplishment. Just as a life in retrospect is measured not by years but by the content of those years, so too is this psychological interval measured – not by the time spent in making the adjustment, but by the accomplishment of that interval.

The true meaning of six days of work (creation) is revealed in the mystery of the VAU, which is the sixth letter in the Hebrew alphabet, and the third letter in the divine name – JOD HE VAU HE.

As previously explained in the mystery of the name of Jehovah, VAU means to nail or join.

The creator is joined to his creation through feeling; and the time that it takes you to fix a definite feeling is the true measure of these six days of creation.

Mentally separating yourself from the objective world and attaching yourself through the secret of feeling to the subjective state is the function of the sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, VAU, or the six days of work.

There is always an interval between the fixed impression, or subjective state, and the outward expression of that state.

The interval is called the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is the mental rest which follows the fixed psychological state; it is the result of your six days of work.

“The Sabbath was made for man” [Mark 2:27]. This mental rest which follows a successful conscious impregnation is the period of mental pregnancy; a period which is made for the purpose of incubating the manifestation.

It was made for the manifestation; the manifestation was not made for it.

Automatically you keep the Sabbath a day of rest – a period of mental rest – if you succeed in accomplishing your six days of work.

There can be no Sabbath, no seventh day, no period of mental rest, until the six days are over – until the psychological adjustment is accomplished and the mental impression is fully made.

Man is warned that if he fails to keep the Sabbath, if he fails to enter into the rest of God he will also fail to receive the promise – he will fail to realize his desires.

The reason for this is simple and obvious. There can be no mental rest until a conscious impression is made.

If a man fails to fully impress upon himself the fact that he now has that which heretofore he desired to possess, he will continue to desire it, and therefore he will not be mentally at rest or satisfied.

If, on the other hand, he succeeds in making this conscious adjustment so that upon emerging from the period of silence or his subjective six days of work, he knows by his feeling that he has the thing desired, then he automatically enters the Sabbath or the period of mental rest.

Pregnancy follows impregnation. Man does not continue desiring that which he has already acquired. The Sabbath can be kept as a day of rest only after man succeeds in becoming conscious of being that which before entering the silence he desired to be.

The Sabbath is the result of the six days of work.

The man who knows the true meaning of these six work days realizes that the observance of one day of the week as a day of physical quietness is not keeping the Sabbath.

The peace and the quiet of the Sabbath can be experienced only when man has succeeded in becoming conscious of being that which he desires to be. If he fails to make this conscious impression he has missed the mark; he has sinned, for to sin is to miss the mark – to fail to achieve one’s objective; a state in which there is no peace of mind.

“If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin” [John 15:22]. If man had not been presented with an ideal state toward which to aim, a state to be desired and acquired, he would have been satisfied with his lot in life and would never have known sin.

Now that man knows that his capacities are infinite, knows that by working six days or by making a psychological adjustment he can realize his desires, he will not be satisfied until he achieves his every objective.

He will, with the true knowledge of these six work days, define his objective and set about becoming conscious of being it.

When this conscious impression is made it is automatically followed by a period of mental rest, a period the mystic calls the Sabbath, an interval in which the conscious impression will be gestated and physically expressed.

The word will be made flesh. But that is not the end!

The Sabbath or rest which will be broken by the embodiment of the idea will sooner or later give way to another six days of work as man defines another objective and begins anew the act of defining himself as that which he desires to be.

Man has been stirred out of his sleep through the medium of desire, and can find no rest until he realizes his desire.

But before he can enter into the rest of God, or keep the Sabbath, before he can walk unafraid and at peace, he must become a good spiritual marksman and learn the secret of hitting the mark or working six days – the secret by which he lets go the objective state and adjusts himself to the subjective.

This secret was revealed in the divine name Jehovah, and again in the story of Isaac blessing his son Jacob. If man will apply the formula as it is revealed on these Bible dramas he will hit a spiritual bull’s eye every time, for he will know that the mental rest or Sabbath is entered only as he succeeds in making a psychological adjustment.

The story of the crucifixion beautifully dramatizes these six days (psychological period) and the seventh day of rest.

It is recorded that it was the custom of the Jews to have someone released from prison at the feast of the Passover; and that they were given the choice of having released unto them either Barabbas the robber, or Jesus the savior. And they cried, “Release Barabbas” [John 18:40]. Whereupon Barabbas was released and Jesus was crucified.

It is further recorded that Jesus the Savior was crucified on the sixth day, entombed or buried on the seventh, and resurrected on the first day.

The savior in your case is that which would save you from that which you are not conscious of being, while Barabbas the thief is your present conception of yourself which robs you of that which you would like to be.

In defining your savior you define that which you would save you and not how you would be saved.

Your savior or desire has ways ye know not of; his ways are past finding out [Romans 11:33].

Every problem reveals its own solution. If you were imprisoned you would automatically desire to be free. Freedom, then, is the thing that would save you. It is your savior.

Having discovered your savior the next step in this great drama of the resurrection is to release Barabbas, the robber – your present concept of yourself – and to crucify your savior, or fix the consciousness of being or having that which would save you.

Barabbas represents your present problem. Your savior is that which would free you from this problem. You release Barabbas by taking your attention away from your problem – away from your sense of limitation – for it robs you of the freedom that you seek. And you crucify your savior by fixing a definite psychological state by feeling that you are free from the limitation of the past.

You deny the evidence of the senses and begin to feel subjectively the joy of being free. You feel this state of freedom to be so real that you too cry out, “I am free!” – “It is finished” [John 19:30].

The fixing of this subjective state – the crucifixion – takes place on the sixth day. Before the sun sets on this day you must have completed the fixation by feeling – “It is so” – “It is finished.”

The subjective knowing is followed by the Sabbath or mental rest. You will be as one buried or entombed for you will know that no matter how mountainous the barriers, how impassable the walls appear to be, your crucified and buried savior (your present subjective fixation) will resurrect himself. By keeping the Sabbath a period of mental rest, by assuming the attitude of mind that would be yours if you were already visibly expressing this freedom, you will receive the promise of the Lord, for the Word will be made flesh – the subjective fixation will embody itself. “And God did rest the seventh day from all His works” [Hebrews 4:4].

Your consciousness is God resting in the knowledge that – “It is well” – “It is finished.” And your objective senses shall confirm that it is so for the day shall reveal it.

Chapter Six

The formula for the cure of leprosy as revealed in the fourteenth chapter of Leviticus is most illuminating when viewed through the eyes of a mystic. This formula can be prescribed as the positive cure of any disease in man’s world, be it physical, mental, financial, social, moral – anything.

It matters not about the nature of the disease or its duration, for the formula can be successfully applied to any and all of them.

Here is the formula as it is recorded in the book of Leviticus. “Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean… and the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed…..As for the living bird, he shall take it and shall dip it in the blood of the bird that was killed; and he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times and shall pronounce him clean and shall let the living bird loose into the open field…. And he shall be clean” [14:4-8].

A literal application of this story would be stupid and fruitless, while on the other hand a psychological application of the formula is wise and fruitful.

A bird is a symbol of an idea. Every man who has a problem or who desires to express something other than that which he is now expressing can be said to have two birds. These two birds or conceptions can be defined as follows: the first bird is your present out-pictured conception of yourself; it is the description which you would give if you were asked to define yourself – your physical condition, your income, your obligations, your nationality, family, race and so on. Your sincere answer to these questions would necessarily be based solely upon the evidence of your senses and not upon any wishful thinking.

This true conception of yourself (based entirely upon the evidences of your senses) defines the first bird.

The second bird is defined by the answer you wish you might give in these questions of self-definition. In short, these two birds can be defined as that which you are conscious of being and that which you desire to be.

Another definition of the two birds would be, the first – your present problem regardless of its nature, and the second – the solution to that problem.

For example: if you were sick, good health would be the solution. If you were in debt, freedom from debt would be the solution. If you were hungry, food would be the solution. As you have noticed, the how, the manner of realizing the solution, is not considered.

Only the problem and the solution are considered.

Every problem reveals its own solution. For sickness it is health; for poverty it is riches; for weakness it is strength, for confinement it is freedom.

These two states then, your problem and its solution, are the two birds you bring to the priest. You are the priest who now performs the drama of the curing of the man of leprosy – you and your problem. You are the priest; and with the formula for the cure of leprosy you now free yourself from your problem.

First: Take one of the birds (your problem) and kill it by extracting the blood from it. Blood is man’s consciousness. “He hath made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth” [Acts 17:26].

Your consciousness is the one and only reality which animates and makes real that which you are conscious of being. So turning your attention away from the problem is equivalent to extracting the blood from the bird. Your consciousness is the one blood which makes all states living realities. By removing your attention from any given state you have drained the lifeblood from that state. You kill or eliminate the first bird (your problem) by removing your attention from it. Into this blood (your consciousness) you dip the live bird (the solution), or that which heretofore you desired to be or possess. This you do by freeing yourself to be the desirable state now.

The dipping of the live bird into the blood of the bird that was killed is similar to the blessing of Jacob by his blind father Isaac. As you recall, blind Isaac could not see his objective world, his son Esau. You, too, are blind to your problem – the first bird – for you have removed your attention from it and therefore you do not see it. Your attention (blood) is now placed upon the second bird (subjective state), and you feel and sense the reality of it.

Seven times you are told to sprinkle the one to be cleansed. This means you must dwell within the new conception of yourself until you mentally enter the seventh day (the Sabbath); until the mind is stilled or fixed in the belief that you are actually expressing or possessing that which you desire to be or to possess. At the seventh sprinkle you are instructed to loose the living bird and pronounce the man clean.

As you fully impress upon yourself the fact that you are that which you desire to be, you have symbolically sprinkled yourself seven times; then you are as free as the bird that is loosed. And like the bird in flight which must in a little while return to the earth, so must your subjective impressions or claim in a little while embody itself in your world.

This story and all the other stories of the Bible are psychological plays dramatized within the consciousness of man.

You are the high priest; you are the leper; you are the birds.

Your consciousness or I AM is the high priest; you, the man with the problem, are the leper. The problem, your present concept of yourself, is the bird that is killed; the solution of the problem, what you desire to be, is the living bird that is freed.

You re-enact this great drama within yourself by turning your attention away from your problem and placing it upon that which you desire to express.

You impress upon yourself the fact that you are that which you desire to be until your mind is stilled in the belief that it is so.

Living in this fixed attitude of mind, living in the consciousness that you are now that which you formerly desired to be, is the bird in flight, unfettered by the limitations of the past and moving toward the embodiment of your desire.

Chapter Seven

“So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth; it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereunto I sent it.” [– Isaiah 55:11]

God speaks to you through the medium of your basic desires. Your basic desires are words of promise or prophecies that contain within themselves the plan and power of expression.

By basic desire is meant your real objective. Secondary desires deal with the manner of realization. God, your I AM, speaks to you, the conditioned conscious state, through your basic desires. Secondary desires or ways of expression are the secrets of your I AM, the all wise Father. Your Father, I AM, reveals the first and last – “I am the beginning and the end” [Revelation 1:8, 22:13] – but never does He reveal the middle or secret of His ways; that is, the first is revealed as the word, your basic desire. The last is its fulfillment – the word made flesh. The second or middle (the plan of unfoldment) is never revealed to man but remains forever the Father’s secret.

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto those things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book; and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life.” [ibidem, 22:18-19]

The words of prophecy spoken of in the book of Revelation are your basic desires which must not be further conditioned. Man is constantly adding to and taking from these words. Not knowing that the basic desire contains the plan and power of expression man is always compromising and complicating his desire.

Here is an illustration of what man does to the word of prophecy – his desires.

Man desires freedom from his limitation or problem. The first thing he does after he defines his objective is to condition it upon something else.

He begins to speculate on the manner of acquiring it.

Not knowing that the thing desired has a way of expression all of its own he starts planning how he is going to get it, thereby adding to the word of God.

If, on the other hand, he has no plan or conception as to the fulfillment of his desire, then he compromises his desire by modifying it. He feels that if he will be satisfied with less than his basic desire, then he might have a better chance of realizing it. In doing so he takes from the word of God. Individuals and nations alike are constantly violating this law of their basic desire by plotting and planning the realization of their ambitions; they thereby add to the word of prophecy, or they compromise with their ideals, thus taking from the word of God.

The inevitable result is death and plagues or failure and frustration as promised for such violations.

God speaks to man only through the medium of his basic desires.

Your desires are determined by your conception of yourself. Of themselves they are neither good or evil. “I know and am persuaded by the Lord Christ Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself but to him that seeth anything to be unclean to him it is unclean” [Romans 14:14].

Your desires are the natural and automatic result of your present conception of yourself.

God, your unconditioned consciousness, is impersonal and no respecter of persons [Acts 10:34, Romans 2:11].

Your unconditioned consciousness, God, gives to your conditioned consciousness, man, through the medium of your basic desires that which your conditioned state (your present conception of yourself) believes it needs.

As long as you remain in your present conscious state so long will you continue desiring that which you now desire.

Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the nature of your desires.

Desires are states of consciousness seeking embodiment. They are formed by man’s consciousness and can easily be expressed by the man who has conceived them.

Desires are expressed when the man who has conceived them assumes the attitude of mind that would be his if the states desired were already expressed. Now because desires regardless of their nature can be so easily expressed by fixed attitudes of mind, a word of warning must be given to those who have not yet realized the oneness of life, and who do not know the fundamental truth that consciousness is God, the one and only reality.

This warning was given to man in the famous Golden Rule – “Do unto others that which you would have them do unto you.” [Matthew 7:21]

You may desire something for yourself or you may desire for another. If your desire concerns another make sure that the thing desired is acceptable to that other. The reason for this warning is that your consciousness is God, the giver of all gifts.

Therefore, that which you feel and believe to be true of another is a gift you have given him.

The gift that is not accepted returns to the giver.

Be very sure then that you would love to possess the gift yourself for if you fix a belief within yourself as true of another and he does not accept this state as true of himself, this unaccepted gift will embody itself within your world.

Always hear and accept as true of others that which you would desire for yourself. In so doing you are building heaven on earth.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is based upon this law.

Only accept such states as true of others that you would willingly accept as true of yourself that you may constantly create heaven on earth. Your heaven is defined by the state of consciousness in which you live, which state is made up of all that you accept as true of yourself and true of others.

Your immediate environment is defined by your own conception of yourself plus your convictions regarding others which have not been accepted by them.

Your conception of another which is not his conception of himself is a gift returned to you.

Suggestions, like propaganda, are boomerangs unless they are accepted by those to whom they are sent.

So your world is a gift you have given to yourself.

The nature of the gift is determined by your conception of yourself plus the unaccepted gifts you offered others.

Make no mistake about this; law is no respecter of persons.

Discover the law of self-expression and live by it; then you will be free. With this understanding of the law, define your desire; know exactly what you want; make certain that it is desirable and acceptable.

The wise and disciplined man sees no barrier to the realization of his desire; he sees nothing to destroy. With a fixed attitude of mind he recognizes that the thing desired is already fully expressed, for he knows that a fixed subjective state has ways and means of expressing itself of which no man knows. “Before they ask I have answered” [approx., Isaiah 65:24], “I have ways ye know not of” [approx., Isaia 42:16], “My ways are past finding out” [Romans 11:33].

The undisciplined man, on the other hand, constantly sees opposition to the fulfillment of his desire, and, because of the frustration, he forms desires of destruction which he firmly believes must be expressed before his basic desire can be realized. When man discovers this law of one consciousness he will understand the great wisdom of the Golden Rule and so he will live by it and prove to himself that the kingdom of heaven is on earth.

You will realize why you should “do unto others that which you would have them do unto you.” You will know why you should live by this Golden Rule because you will discover that it is just good common sense to do so since the rule is based upon life’s changeless law and is no respecter of persons.

Consciousness is the one and only reality. The world and all within it are states of consciousness objectified.

Your world is defined by your conception of yourself PLUS YOUR CONCEPTIONS OF OTHERS which are not their conceptions of themselves.

The story of the Passover is to help you turn your back on the limitations of the present and pass over into a better and freer state.

The suggestion to “Follow the man with the pitcher of water” [Mark 14:13; Luke 22:10] was given to the disciples to guide them to the last supper or the feast of the Passover. The man with the pitcher of water is the eleventh disciple, Simon of Canaan, the disciplined quality of mind which hears only dignified, noble and kindly states.

The mind that is disciplined to hear only the good feasts upon good states and so embodies the good on earth.

If you, too, would attend the last supper – the great feast of the Passover – then follow this man. Assume this attitude of mind symbolized as the “man with the pitcher of water” and you will live in a world that is really heaven on earth.

The feast of the Passover is the secret of changing your consciousness.

You turn your attention from your present conception of yourself and assume the consciousness of being that which you want to be, thereby passing from one state to another.

This feat is accomplished with the help of the twelve disciples, which are the twelve disciplined qualities of mind [see “Your Faith is Your Fortune” by the same author, chapter 18].

Chapter Eight

“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” [– Matthew 17:20]

This faith of a grain of mustard seed has proved a stumbling block to man [1Corinthians 1:23]. He has been taught to believe that a grain of mustard seed signifies a small degree of faith. So he naturally wonders why he, a mature man, should lack this insignificant measure of faith when so small an amount assures success.

“Faith,” he is told, “is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” [Hebrews 11:1]. And again, “Through faith… the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” [Hebrews 11:3].

Invisible things were made visible. The grain of mustard seed is not the measure of a small amount of faith. On the contrary, it is the absolute in faith.

A mustard seed is conscious of being a mustard seed and a mustard seed alone. It is not aware of any other seed in the world. It is sealed in the conviction that it is a mustard seed in the same manner that the spermatozoa sealed in the womb is conscious of being man and only man.

A grain of mustard seed is truly the measure of faith necessary to accomplish your every objective; but like the mustard seed you too must lose yourself in the consciousness of being only the thing desired.

You abide within this sealed state until it bursts itself and reveals your conscious claim.

Faith is feeling or living in the consciousness of being the thing desired; faith is the secret of creation, the VAU in the divine name JOD HE VAU HE; faith is the Ham in the family of Noah; faith is the sense of feeling by which Isaac blessed and made real his son Jacob. By faith God (your consciousness) calleth things that are not seen as though they were and makes them seen.

It is faith which enables you to become conscious of being the thing desired; again, it is faith which seals you in this conscious state until your invisible claim ripens to maturity and expresses itself, is made visible.

Faith or feeling is the secret of this appropriation. Through feeling, the consciousness desiring is joined to the thing desired.

How would you feel if you were that which you desire to be?

Wear the mood, this feeling that would be yours if you were already that which you desire to be; and in a little while you will be sealed in the belief that you are. Then without effort this invisible state will objectify itself; the invisible will be made visible.

If you had the faith of a grain of mustard seed you would this day through the magical substance of feeling seal yourself in the consciousness of being that which you desire to be.

In this mental stillness or tomblike state you would remain, confident that you need no one to roll away the stone [Matthew 28:2; Mark 16:3; Luke 24:2; John 20:1], for all the mountains, stones and inhabitants of earth are nothing in your sight [Isaiah 40:17; Daniel 4:32]. That which you now recognize to be true of yourself (this present conscious state) will do according to its nature among all the inhabitants of earth, and none can stay its hand or say unto it, “What doest Thou?” [Daniel 4:32]. None can stop this conscious state in which you are sealed from embodying itself, nor question its right to be.

This conscious state when properly sealed by faith is a Word of God, I AM, for the man so seated is saying, “I AM so and so,” and the Word of God (my fixed conscious state) is spirit and cannot return unto me void but must accomplish whereunto it is sent. God’s word (your conscious state) must embody itself that you may know: “I AM the Lord… there is no God beside Me” [Isaiah 45:5]. “The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us” [John 1:14], and “He sent His word and healed him” [Psalm 107:20].

You too can send your word, God’s Word, and heal a friend. Is there something that you would like to hear of a friend? Define this something that you know he would love to be or to possess. Now with your desire properly defined you have a Word of God. To send this Word on its way, to speak this Word into being, you simply do this. Sit quietly where you are and assume the mental attitude of listening; recall your friend’s voice; with this familiar voice established in your consciousness, imagine that you are actually hearing his voice and that he is telling you that he is or has that which you wanted him to be or to have.

Impress upon your consciousness the fact that you actually heard him and that he told you what you wanted to hear; feel the thrill of having heard. Then drop it completely. This is the mystic’s secret of sending words into expression – of making the word flesh. You form within yourself the word, the thing you want to hear; then you listen, and tell it to yourself. “Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth” [1Samuel 3:9,10].

Your consciousness is the Lord speaking through the familiar voice of a friend and impressing on yourself that which you desire to hear. This self-impregnation, the state impressed upon yourself, the Word, has ways and means of expressing itself of which no man knows. As you succeed in making the impression you will be unmoved by appearances for this self-impression is sealed as a grain of mustard seed and will in due season mature to its full expression.

Chapter Nine

The use of a friend’s voice to impregnate one’s self with a desirable state is beautifully told in the story of the Immaculate Conception1.

It is recorded that God sent an angel to Mary to announce the birth of His son. “And the angel said unto her… thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son… Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest shall over-shadow thee; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the son of God. For with God nothing shall be impossible”. [Luke 1:30-37]

This is the story that has been told for centuries the world over, but man was not told that it was written about himself so he has failed to receive the benefit it was intended to give him.

The story reveals the method by which the idea or Word was made flesh. God, we are told, germinated or begat an idea, a son, without the aid of another. Then He placed His germinal idea in the womb of Mary with the help of an angel who made the announcement to her and impregnated her with the idea.

No simpler method was ever recorded of consciousness impregnating itself than is found in the story of the Immaculate Conception.

The four characters in this drama of creation are the Father, the Son, Mary and the Angel.

The Father symbolizes your consciousness; the Son symbolizes your desire; Mary symbolizes your receptive attitude of mind; and the Angel symbolizes the method used to make the impregnation.

The drama unfolds in this manner. The Father begets a Son without the aid of another.

You define your objective – you clarify your desire without the help or suggestion of another.

Then the Father selects that angel who is best qualified to bear this message or germinal possibility to Mary.

You select the person in your world who would be sincerely thrilled in witnessing the fulfillment of your desire.

Then Mary learns through the angel that she has already conceived a Son without the aid of man.

You assume a receptive attitude of mind, a listening attitude, and imagine you are hearing the voice of the one you have chosen to tell you what you desire to know. Imagine that you hear him tell you that you are and have that which you desire to be and to have. You remain in this receptive state until you feel the thrill of having heard the good and wonderful news. Then like Mary of the story, you go about your business in secret telling no one of this wonderful and immaculate self-impregnation, confident that in due season you will express this impression.

The Father generates the seed or germinal possibility of a Son but in a eugenic2 impregnation; He does not convey the spermatozoa from Himself to the womb. He has it borne through another medium.

Consciousness desiring is the Father generating the seed or idea. A clarified desire is the perfectly formed seed or the only begotten Son. This seed is then carried from the Father (consciousness desiring) to the Mother (consciousness of being and having the state desired).

This change in consciousness is accomplished by the angel or imaginary voice of a friend telling you that you have already achieved your objective.

The use of an angel or friend’s voice to make a conscious impression is the shortest, safest and surest way to be self-impregnated.

With your desire properly defined, you assume an attitude of listening. Imagine you are hearing the voice of a friend; then make him tell you (imagine he is telling you) how lucky and fortunate you are to have fully realized your desire.

In this receptive attitude of mind you are receiving the message of an angel; you are receiving the impression that you are and have that which you desire to be and to have. The emotional thrill of having heard that which you desire to hear is the moment of conception. It is the moment you become self-impregnated, the moment you actually feel you are now that or have that which heretofore you but desired to be or to possess.

As you emerge from this subjective experience, you, like Mary of the story, will know by your changed attitude of mind that you have conceived a Son; that you have fixed a definite subjective state and will in a little while express or objectify this state.

This book has been written to show you how to achieve your objectives. Apply the principle expressed herein and all the inhabitants of earth cannot stop you from realizing your desires.

Revelation Of Purpose – April 19, 1971 – Neville Goddard PDF

Revelation Of Purpose

Today we read: “I say, You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you, nevertheless, you will die like men.” (Psalm 82:1) Does this not imply that you are not men? If you are men when addressed, then the sentence, “You will die like men,” is without meaning. You are told, “You are sons of God, … but you will die like men.”

Now we turn to Paul’s letter as he wrote it to the Philippians, “Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not count it necessary” – or, count it something to be grasped – “but emptied himself and took upon himself the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men, and being in human form, he became obedient unto death, even death on the cross. Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him a name that is above all names, that at the name of Jesus Christ every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God.”

Now, Jesus Christ only claimed he was the Son of God! You were addressed in the beginning as, “sons of God.” Here is, now, our purpose to reason for emptying ourselves and becoming slaves. The human form is the cross; it is the slave. And we will bear this cross for an allotted span. Oh, we will cry out, because we had to completely empty ourselves of the Being that we really are, for the Being that we really are is one with God! We were in the form of God. Yet, we emptied ourselves and took upon ourselves the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men, and being in the form of man, humbled ourselves and became obedient unto death – even death on a cross.

Now, we are the Being spoken of in Scripture. This story in the depths of your own consciousness is still extant. It is taking place, without reference to duration, to repetition, or to its position in time. It will slowly unfold itself in each person in this world. As it unfolds itself, the individual knows he is the one who descended into this world and took upon himself the form of a slave – that is, this human form.

“No one can ascend into heaven but he who descended, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.”

This [indicating the physical body] is not your real form. You took this for a purpose, for this is the form of death. You descended into this world, that you may taste and experience death. When you read in Scripture, “Should not the Christ suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” – now, you and I have the association with the word suffer as grief, pain. Look it up in your Biblical Concordance, and you will see that it means, “to experience a sensation or feeling.”

There are many words translated suffer. One is “to let it be so” when he comes before John, and yet he allows it to be so for tradition’s sake and he becomes baptized. “Let it be so” is called, “Suffer it to be so now.” But when it comes to the statement, “Should not the Christ suffer these things, and then enter into his glory?” that word is translated “to experience a sensation” – to experience death.

The Immortal You could not know what death is like – it could never know the pains of this world until it became one with it. To become one with it, it has to empty itself of its divine form, which was one with God, and take upon itself the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of man.

So, he wears it as you would wear a mask. This [indicating the physical body] is a mask. Your real form – if I told you, I can only use words; but how on earth could I tell you the glory of your form?

When I heard the chorus sing out – this wonderful chorus, “Neville is risen!” I can only tell you it was a spiral motion – and this is 1946 – and I am a luminous body. I needed no sun, no moon, no stars; I was light unto myself. And as I walked – or, I would say –glided by, everything was made perfect because I was perfect. Everything that I passed by, though at the moment it seemed imperfect, it was instantly transformed into perfection. The blind ceased to be blind, the deaf ceased to be deaf, the lame ceased to be lame, and everyone was made perfect in that moment as I passed by. That was the form.

Eleven years ago, on the 8th of April, when I was lifted up as my body – the cross that I wore through the centuries – at that moment in time it was split in two from top to bottom. And here I saw – How on earth can you describe this to any person and make sense of it? Here, my body is completely split in two, and I am looking now at a pool of golden, liquid, pulsing light, and I know it is my Self. As I know it, I – the observer – fuse with it. It is my Self, my own Redeemer and Creator, and yet, it is my Self, like a self-redemption, a Self-created Being. And at that moment, like a fiery serpent I ascended into Heaven.

You tell a man that he is a “fiery serpent” – it scares him. He wants to be a man of flesh and blood. He wants exactly what he is, made a little bit better – a little bit stronger, a little bit of everything more than he is now, but he doesn’t want a radical change of the being that he is.

Well, I tell you, the face is human, the voice is human, the hands are human, but do not ask any one to tell you what the body is. You will not see it. I can only describe the motion that I made when I ascended; and when I entered into this state, it reverberated, as we are told in Scripture, “He takes it by storm.” The whole thing was one tremendous reverberation, as you enter. That is in store for every one.

The descent is into generation, and the ascent is into regeneration. The descent is into death and decay, and the ascent is into everlasting life, but enhanced by reason of the experiences of the descent. You were “before that the world was,” and you were in the form of God!

As Paul said, “He has made known unto us the mystery of His will according to His purpose which He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time.”

It is a plan. This is not some emergency thinking. “Before that the world was,” you were. You are the gods spoken of, and because you are gods and addressed as gods, when you have this experience, you taste of death.

Now, this is contemporary. When you read Scripture, do not think for one moment you are reading of something that took place two thousand years ago. You are reading it now, and they said to him as he began to speak – now, he has come only to fulfill Scripture. What Scripture is he fulfilling now in this 10th chapter of John? Go to the 21st chapter of the book of Deuteronomy, and read these words, “If a man has a son who is stubborn and rebellious and will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother, they will bring him, and shall bring him before the elders of the city and say to the elders: ‘This is our son. He is stubborn and rebellious, and will not obey our words. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones.”

Do you recognize the character in the Gospel? Read it in the “11th chapter of Matthew: “And so they called the Son of Man a drunkard and a glutton, a friend of sinners, of publicans and harlots and tax collectors. Here is one who said to his mother, What have I to do with thee? And then they confronted him in the temple and said, Why did you do this to us? Your father and I have been searching for you for three days. And he answered, I must be about my Father’s business.”

Here, “No earthly parents do I confess. I am doing my Father’s business.” They could not understand him. He was then about twelve years of age.

They couldn’t understand the complete denial of physical ancestry, for he knew now – for memory began to return – who he really is. He came down to experience death. He bore the cross for the allotted time. Then came that moment in time when the cross was split from top to bottom, and the Spirit trapped was set free, and the long-lost rank restored, and the fall forgiven.

And now, “Who are my parents? Who are my brothers? Who are my sisters? Those who do the will of Him who sent me” – sent me into this world of decay and death that I may experience decay and death. I could not experience it from above. I had to come right down into it and assume and be born man. And this is the cross that I wear.

So the Body that really you gave up, I can’t begin to tell you the joy that is in store for you when you once more take it up. It’s a body of light, a body of power, a body that is all wisdom. You don’t have to raise one finger to make eyes appear in empty sockets. You don’t take them to a hospital and put little eyes from some “eye bank” into the sockets. You don’t have any little banks for livers or hands and for the missing members. As you walk by, everything is done because you are perfect. You need nothing that mortal man thinks you must need. Nothing can remain imperfect in your presence as you walk by clothed in this Garment – the Garment you gave up. You emptied yourself, and then took upon yourself the form of a slave, being born in the likeness of men.

So, if I tell you, as I will, “I say, You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless you will die like men” – if you are men when I address you, that is a stupid remark! If you are not men when you are addressed – and you are addressed in the Divine Council, then who are you? I told you, you are sons of God. What, then, was my form? You emptied yourself of it; you gave it up.

I can only bring back a little shadow of remembrance to you by telling you from my own experience what is in store for you.

When I use the word serpent, it is distasteful to the average person in the world, and yet, we are told, “Those who surround the throne of God, the Seraphim, the fiery serpents” – God’s wisest, wisest creation was the Seraphim. And when Isaiah said, “Send me, O Lord, and they came with a coal and put it on his lips, they spoke” – it was the human voice. He described them as having hands, human faces, – of course, he did put wings on them. I will tell you from my own experience, you don’t need wings. You are omnipresent in such a Body. Wherever you would be, there you are. You need no power to take you there; you are power. You are Omnipotence. You are Omniscience. You are Omnipresent, so you do not need anything to take you any place. That’s the Being that you are! But you completely emptied yourself of it for this Divine purpose, and many a time, while wearing these garments – this cross, we cry out. It seems so heavy, and all the horrors of the world, and we do cry out asking to be relieved of it.

But you are going to carry the cross for the allotted time. And when the time is fulfilled, then it is going to be split right down from top to bottom, and at the base you are going to see – and how on earth can I tell you? Molten gold will take any form. You have a form. You are the observer, and the minute you look at it, you – the form – observing the golden, molten state – you fuse with it, and then it takes your form. And you go up into Heaven like a fiery serpent. That’s the Being that you are!

Let no one scare you; let no one frighten you – that you’ve got to do this, that and the other. It’s already done! This whole thing is already completed. You are here as members of a Body, one Body sharing in a purposed end. So, when you go back, you are that one Body. You and I actually form the one Body that is God! So, we, the sons of God, came down, and when we rise we are God the Father.

That is the only way we could experience the wholeness – is by shattering ourselves, becoming fragmented, and then going through the entire journey, and in the end returning, and returning into Unity. And that Unity is God the Father.

So, when we are told, “Stone him to death” – well, the stones are only the literal facts of life. “They took up stones to stone him.” We are told at the end, “not one bone of his body was broken.” What body? The Bible. That’s his eternal body.

Men have tried through the centuries to change it, and you will find these many editions and they are necessary because overly zealous scribes will add and take from, and add their own little stupid concepts on their theories, what they ought to be. And you will find them among the wisest of men still trying to change the body, but in the end, “not one bone is broken,” as you are told in Exodus, in Numbers, and in the Psalms: “Not a bone is broken.” When they came to him, not a bone was broken.

That means that you cannot change. He did not come to change, to abolish the law and the prophets; he came only to fulfill. So, he fulfills everything in the world. And you are the One spoken of. You are the Lord Jesus Christ!

Until you actually know it from experience, you dwell upon it. Just dwell upon it. Go to sleep in the consciousness of being Him, and you will know beyond all doubt, in the not-distant future, really Who-You-Are. You will know the truth of the things that I am talking about. Everyone will. That is why I am here. That is why I have been sent.

I have been called and sent in the same way that Paul said he was called and sent, in the same way the central figure said, “I have been sent, and when you see me” – if you can really see me – “you have seen Him who sent me.” You will know the One who sent me when you see me, because all will be alike. And yet, no loss of identity, may I tell you? It’s not an absorption, losing your identity. No, and yet, the same form, the same glorious, radiant form that is all-powerful and all-wise. So, that is the Being that you really are.

What does it matter what Oscars you got today or tomorrow, or what power in the world of Caesar you seem to exercise? It means nothing, compared to the Being that you really are. Put all your mind and all your soul upon this one hope that it will unfold in the not-distant future within you, for that’s the only purpose for it all.

And when this purpose is really revealed to you – and I am trying my best to reveal it – then everything falls right into place. It gives meaning to the entire picture of life. Everything has meaning then.

If, perchance, you are passing through a trying time – I am going to ask a friend of mine – she is here tonight– to tell another friend, a mutual friend, this statement from Blake:

“There are states in which all visionary men are accounted mad men.” [From “The Laocoon”] Then he adds this to that thought: “Read Luke, the 2nd chapter, the 1st verse.” If you read the 2nd chapter, the 1st verse, you will wonder how on earth can he relate that to what he has just said, that “All visionary men are accounted mad men,” But if you read the whole chapter, you will see what he is really telling you, that it is on your doorstep. It is the birth of the child. The second chapter of Luke, the first verse, and that is: “The order went out from Augustus Caesar that all” – the whole vast world – “must be enrolled” – enrolled, it implies, for taxes. They must now be enrolled, for the order has come.

And read the whole chapter, and you will see where this, now – Joseph, because he was of the line of David, he took his wife Mary up to Bethlehem, the city of David, and then while she was there, her time arrived for the delivery of her son. And then the Son is born!

It is preceded by, as Blake said, a form of madness, for he said: “All visionary men are accounted – in certain states they are accounted mad men.” And then he asks you to read that verse. Blake was not the kind of person who would spell everything out. In fact, he didn’t spell anything out. He said to his critic, the great Trussler – The Reverend Dr. Trussler: “You say I need someone to interpret my word. You ought to know that that which can be made clear to the idiot isn’t worth my time. And the ancients understood this, and they said, What was too clear could not rouse the faculties to act.” [From “Letter No. 51 to Dr. Trussler]

If you leave it without trying to clarify it, then you will simply stimulate the man to think and rouse his faculties to act. So, he doesn’t spell it out, but you read the chapter and you will see what Blake is implying, that a form of madness precedes the birth of the child.

I know, in my own case – it goes back quite a few years before 1959 – I would say, four or five years, that if I shared with others what I was feeling within me at the time, it would be a form of madness. I was talking to an audience of twenty-six hundred on Sunday mornings and turning away over fifteen hundred at the Fox- Wilshire. I took that platform, and here I could feel within me, just as a woman would feel, the struggle of a child within her, but I felt it in my head – this pulsing, pulsing, vibrant state. Sit down for a moment, and the whole thing is just like a mad, mad state, and I was talking to intelligent people – I think they were – who came to hear me, and I was addressing twenty-six hundred and was turning away fifteen hundred, and I took another theater that sat another seven hundred and fifty, and that overflowed; and, yet, here I am like a woman – a pregnant woman – almost at the end of her time. That is what Blake is talking about.

I am going to ask my friend to tell her to read that second chapter, and all the symptoms that she is going through now are glorious. They are perfectly wonderful, and I would not raise one finger to stop them or to divert them. First of all, I couldn’t. It is upon her. And, so, I tell every one here: until this birth takes place, you can’t return, but it will take place.

As we are told: “No man can enter the New Age called the Kingdom of God unless he is born from above.” And when he is “born from above,” it will be followed in this manner: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so will the Son of Man be lifted up.” That comes later. The first act, then 139 days later comes the discovery of the Fatherhood of God, and 123 days later, making it 262, comes the ascent into Heaven like a fiery serpent. And then 998 days later, making it one thousand two hundred and sixty (1,260), comes the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. And then the whole thing is over!

And you are now still here. You have borne the fardel [burden] the allotted span, but you are going to be here to tell it, and you will tell it to the very end, and that end will come like this. But you have to tell it to encourage those who are on the verge of it, because every one has to wear the cross for the allotted span. And then at the end, that spine is split in two from top to bottom, revealing – and how on earth could any one tell it more beautifully than Blake told it at the end of his “Jerusalem” – almost at the end. And here he is, looking at it, and he says, “Oh, my Divine Redeemer and Creator!” He said:

“I behold the visions of my deadly sleep of six thousand years

Circling1 around thy skirts like a serpent of precious stones and gold.

I know it is my Self, O my Divine Creator and Redeemer.”

He didn’t spell it out. I have tried tonight to spell it out for you, but you see, and you know, it doesn’t make sense. It’s a form of madness. How can you look at molten gold that is pulsing and alive, and know it is your Self? You look into a mirror, and you will say, “I know that’s my reflection – that’s myself.” But to look at this that has no form; it is a golden, molten, liquid light, and yet, you know more surely that it is you than you know when you look into a mirror!

And as you know it, you fuse with it. You are now the mold that it takes, and you know exactly what mold you must have been, because the minute you take it, up like a fiery serpent you go into Heaven, and it reverberates like thunder.

So, that is the Being that you are. So, when you read the 82nd Psalm, which is the most difficult of all Psalms – so claim our scholars – how on earth can we interpret it? We can only guess at it.

“But God has taken His place in the Divine Council, in the midst of the gods He holds judgment” – and now He speaks: “I say you are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, you will die like men.”

So, when one comes into the world and claims what he does, they will take up stones and tell him who his father is on earth. “ They took up stones to stone him, and he said to them, For what do you stone me? For what good works? And they said to him, For no good works, but for your blasphemy, for you, being a man, make yourself God.”

Then he said to them, “Is it not written in your law that I say, You are gods?” Now, he is quoting something two thousand years before; and he is quoting it as though it is taking place now: “I say to you” – that’s what he is telling them – “that you are gods, for it is written in your law that you are gods. And Scripture cannot be broken. If, then, he called you gods because you heard the Word of God, do you say that he whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world blasphemes because he said, I am the Son of God?”

Now, he is telling them that they are the sons of God, but they won’t believe it. They claim they are the sons of Abraham, born after the flesh. He is telling them they are sons of God, but they will not know it until they experience that which he has. So, he has suffered these things, and to suffer is to “experience the sensations; to know them from actual experience.”

So, they took up stones. They say, We know your father and your mother and your brothers and your sisters, and we know all about you; and you make these extravagant claims.

So, that is the Being that you really are. And I cannot tell any one in the world the glory that is in store for them when they are lifted up, and they actually find themselves clothed in that Body, but more beautiful than ever, that they emptied themselves of in order to come down here.

You didn’t begin in any swamp! You didn’t begin in any little thing called a tadpole. These are garments [indicating the physical body] that you annexed; you penetrated these bodies and annexed the brains of them. But you are the sons of God who did it. And to do it, you can’t pretend you are doing it; you had to completely empty yourself of your glory to take this form of the cross. And you can’t pretend, but you will play it the allotted time. After you have played it to the fullness of time, then you will hear the call.

Now, you here – a lady called me this week. She said, “I went home last Monday night, and I was thrilled with what you said, but I am disturbed.”

I was talking of the betrayer, and here it is Judas, and I was speaking highly of Judas. Well, no one can betray a man without knowing the man’s secrets, for “no man knows the secret of God but the Spirit of God.” So, if he betrays God, he has to know God! He couldn’t betray what he doesn’t know.

Then she quotes Mark. Now, again, we find scribes adding to. The same quote that you find in Luke does not quote what Mark does. Mark is basic, granted, but our scribes, in transcribing, they have to build their own little philosophy of life. Luke only claims the story of the betrayal, but the word translated woe – if you look it up in your Concordance, it means: “who, which, what, that.” In other words, “Who is that?” The same that they are asking about Judas. “What will happen to that man? What is that to thee? Follow thou me.” He knew the secret, and till the very end, they did not know the secret. They thought they knew it, but they did not know the secret.

When you read the stories of Scripture – and we are told that Joseph was the father, but he disappears when the boy reaches the age of twelve and denies the parents. Well, who is Joseph? Read the genealogy in Matthew. It begins: “This is the book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David.” Now read the genealogy.

Joseph is the father of Jesus, but in the genealogy, his father, that is, Joseph’s father is Jacob; yet in the dream – when the angel appears to Joseph in a dream, he said, “Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which was conceived by her is of the Holy Spirit.” But he addresses him as “Joseph, son of David”; and the book begins: “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David.”

But Joseph, in Scripture, is the Dreamer. He is the beginning of the forgiveness of sin. For he said to his brothers in the end of the great plot, which is Genesis – at the very end, the 50th chapter: “You make evil against me, but God meant it for good,” and he forgave them. That’s the beginning of the forgiveness of sin. And he was called the Dreamer. When the Dreamer awakes, he is the Lord Jesus Christ. So, he becomes his own father!

And what was Joseph called in Numbers? Moses changed his name from Joseph – it’s called “Hosea,” but “Josea” means “Joseph”; he changed his name from Hosea to Joshua, and “Joshua” means “Jesus”; and Jesus is the Lord God Jehovah. Can’t you see the mystery unfolding?

So, here, “Do not be afraid, Joseph, son of David, to take unto you Mary, your wife.” So, he addresses him as the son of David, but the book begins: “Jesus Christ, the son of David.” But Joseph is the Dreamer, and this comes to him in a dream. He is the dreamer. So, he begins the dream in the 37th chapter of Genesis, and he begins the dream that all the things will come and bow to him, the sun and the moon, and the stars, and then he told his father. And the father said, “What! Your mother and I will bow before you?” And the brothers could not believe for one moment that eleven stars – meaning the eleven of them – would bow before him; and they plotted to sell him into slavery.” So, they sold him into slavery, as you were “sold into slavery.” You emptied yourself and became a slave. And the Dreamer-in-you is Joseph.

But you are told: “I will raise up out of your body” – To whom is he speaking? He is speaking to David – “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your son after you, who shall come forth from your body.” When he comes forth from your body and your name is David, then he is your son. “I, the lord, will be his father, and he shall be my son.”

So, Joseph is the dreamer in man, but when he wakes, he is the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you see the mystery?

So, who is that? Not woe. You and I have certain associations with words. We have the word suffer, we think of grief, we think of pain, and all it means is simply “to experience a sensation.”

“For joy and woe are woven fine,

A garment2 for the soul divine.”

– Blake, from “Auguries of Innocence”

Not all joy, not all woe; they are “woven fine” in this world when we eat of the Tree of Good and Evil. And when we come to the end, and then the Spirit that was trapped willingly is set free by the splitting of the body from top to bottom and it ascends like the fiery serpent, it is set free, and the long-lost rank, which is the Son of God, is restored – but now ennobled. He is the Father. He awakes as his father, having gone through the horrors, “bearing this fardel for the allotted time.”

Now let us go into the silence.

You Can Forgive Sin – March 29, 1963 – Neville Goddard PDF Lecture

“You Can Forgive Sin.” That, to most people, will be blasphemy as you will hear later on, quoting from scripture. It is so common among all of us to ascribe our ills and troubles to outward things – like the present conditions of the world, to our environment, or simply to things.

And these things may be things that are absent from our world, or things we have in our world, but still things, while all along the real cause of our ills is sin. So we are told he was called Jesus because he came to save men from their sins; his only concern was the saving of men from sin.

Now what is sin? Sin means “missing the mark,” missing the road, “missing the goal” in life. If you haven’t a mark you can’t sin. If you have a goal in this world and do not realize it and miss it, then you have sinned. So his purpose is to show man how not to sin in this world. No condemnation. Tell me you sin – tell me your goal, and I will tell you God’s word. That is what he said. He has come only to show man how not to miss his objective in this world.

Now we turn to Mark 2:3 – or the same thing with a different twist in Matthew 9:2. It is the story of the paralytic. We are told he was preaching the word, that is, the story of salvation, and they brought in a paralytic carried by four men; and seeing their faith, he said to the paralytic: “My son, your sins are forgiven.” (2:5) And scribes sitting around thought in their heart, “Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

And discerning in their hearts what they contemplated, he said, “Why do you question thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say ‘Rise, take up your pallet and walk?’” So he said to him, “Take up your bed and walk and go home” and he rose and went on his way. Then we are told, “. . . they were all amazed and glorified God . . .” who had given such authority to men, for it was a man who did it.

We are that man. It is to us that this authority to forgive sin has been given. And the world thought they were simply the exclusive power of some being outside of man. Read it in Mark 2 and Matthew 9.

Now what is this ability to forgive sin? We know that “sin” means missing the mark. The one that forgave it called himself, “The Truth.” He said: “I am the Truth. If you know my word and abide in my word, then you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.” (John 8:31, 32) For the whole story begins he was teaching the truth – the word. Now, he calls himself “the truth.”

If I said to you tonight, what would you like to be in this world? And you name it – I would like to be_____(no matter what it is) and I turned to you and said: You are that, you are it; right now you are it – you would say: I am it? I can’t believe it! Then you are denying the truth. He said: “I am the Truth” – I AM everything in this world; everything man can ever imagine, I AM. So, you imagine what you would like to be.

If you cannot remain faithful and loyal to that vision of yourself, then you are sinning. Not to sin is to have a goal. What would it be like? If I remain faithful to that vision as though it were true, no power in this world could stop me from realizing it – but no power. I could realize it. How? Don’t ask me. But if it took the entire world of three billion to play parts to aid me in the fulfillment of my vision, they would play it without knowing they had played it. It would make no difference if they knew or did not know. They would have to contribute to the fulfillment of my vision, if I remain loyal to that vision.

So, what would it be like if I were the man I would like to be? If I said to you tonight: is there a man in this room who is rich? And no one said, I am rich – that is not your goal, and if it is, you are missing the mark. If there is a man in this room – general man – who is known, who is contributing to the world’s good, and no one replies, I am he, then either it is not your goal – or if it is your goal, you are missing it. So the name is “I AM he”, as told in John 8:24: “I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.”

This is not a man talking to me. This is taking place in the depths of the soul of man. If you don’t believe now that I AM the one that I would be, then you are missing your goal and you are sinning. So it does not come from without; it is not caused by anything on the outside at all. My health problems are not caused by conditions and by environment, or anything else; it is caused only by sin – and sin is missing the mark.

There is only one being – one person in the world – who can hit that mark, and it is God. God forgives sin, as told us in Isaiah: “I am the Lord, I am thy Savior, and there is no other savior.” “I, I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior. No one has formed before me or no one will be formed after me. I am the Savior.” (Isaiah 43:3; 43:11)

You will be saved from what you are. There is only one being in the world that can save you, and that Being is “I AM.” So, you save yourself. What would it be like were it true – if I were now the man or woman I would like to be? Assume it and dare to believe it and walk as though it were true, and no power in this world can stop it – but no power!

There is no one greater than God. Say, “I am” – that is God. You stand in the presence of a being and because he has a little tag – or because he is the Premier of a certain country, or Queen, or President of a certain land, you think he is greater than you are? You are missing the mark. You can’t stand in the presence of anyone who is greater than you, if you know who you are.

You are not going to lord it over them, knowing, but no one will be smaller, either – all are God. Then you are told to go and tell them. (Ezekiel 3:18, 33:8) – “go and tell them. If you do not tell them, and they sin and you do not tell them – they will die in their sin, but their blood will be upon your head. If you tell them and they do not repent, they will die in their sin, but the blood will not be upon your head. So tell them.” So Jesus is made to confess that he told them, that the blood might not be upon his head.

I Acts 20:26, 27 Paul makes the confession: “. . . for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” He told them that, that he may not carry that secret to the grave and not share it with the world. So I have told them all, that this is a principle that cannot fail.

Now let us come back to the paralytic. You came here tonight on your own steam, as it were. If I tell you we are the paralytic of scripture, you will be surprised. They were brought into the place by four men. Do you know who the four men are? The ancients always called us by the four senses – the four rivers that ran out of Eden. They did not speak of five, they spoke always of four.

They joined taste and touch together because they depended upon contact. To taste something or touch something, it must be contacted. But they separated sight, sound, and scent. These three were separate in the great symbolism of scripture. But taste and touch were joined. They called them the four senses, and we came here tonight borne by these four men.

I know my bank balance, and in two weeks Uncle Sam wants part of what I earned. I do not even know Uncle Sam. They tell me he exists somewhere, but I do not know where; so I am supposed to pay on the 15th of next month “x” number of dollars. Regardless of how I live, I must save something to pay him. It is the land of Caesar, I am fully aware of that. I can see my bank balance. I know what it is in my world. I can
take my senses and bring it to play on what is taking place.

I was brought here tonight on the shoulders of these men. He tells me: your sins are forgiven, and, walk. How can I do it, knowing what I must pay on the 15th, knowing what I must do between now and the 15th? How will I do it? Your sins are forgiven, but who can forgive but God? Only God can forgive, and God is I AM. All right, I will now see the world as I would see it were it now May 1st and all things behind me, completely paid, paid in full.

Suppose I was unemployed. I was brought here tonight on the backs of these men. I know I have rent to pay and food to buy – all of these things – and he tells me my sins were forgiven, to rise and take up my bed and walk! How? I was brought in here on the backs of four men and called upon to rise – ignore these four and walk on my own steam now. Don’t walk based on what the four allow me to see, to hear, and smell, and to be. Walk out of here unaided by these four. Walk on my own. How?

I ignore the evidence of the senses. They brought me in here. I completely ignore what they tell me I really have in this world, and I see what I would like to see and assume things are what I would like them to be, and influence every being in the world to play their part to fulfill what I am assuming that I am in this world. I came in a paralytic, and walk out on my own steam. That is the story.

Every being in the world is called upon to rise and walk out, for he forgives your sin. He comes into the world only to free man of sin, no matter what you have ever done in this world. Don’t look back on things as they are; look on things as they ought to be, the man or woman you would like to be, and assume that you are and see that only. And then you will know what it is to forgive sin.

Who forgives? God forgives. He forgave you. I assumed. Who assumed? I assumed, that is – God. “I AM” is His name. I AM assuming I AM the man I would like to be. That is God. I begin to name it and walk in that state, and that is God. There is nothing but God. Forget what you have done. or what you are seemingly doing, and dream of the man or woman you would like to be and dare to assume you are it.

Now we are told by the great Blake: “The spirit of Jesus is continual forgiveness of sin” – forgiveness of sin every moment of time. Tonight when we go into the silence we can sit here for a minute and forgive each other. Suppose I could hear everyone here rise and tell the most fantastic story in the world about themselves or a friend, or a relative – or someone. Suppose I, really wanting it to be told from this platform, sit in the silence and listen to that and that only – the most fantastic story in the world that you could tell me individually.

If I walk out of here tonight convinced that I heard it and remain loyal to what I have imagined I heard, I must hear it – no power can stop it, if I remain loyal. If anyone says it has not worked, I am not asking any questions, but as far as I am concerned, it has worked. I am sure when I know the vision I am holding for you “has its own appointed hour, it will ripen and it will flower.

If it seems long in coming, wait. It is sure, it will not be late.” If I actually assume things are as I would like them to be of every being here, and I remain loyal, I either know the story is true or it is false. I know it is true. It can’t fail. There is no power in the world to make it fail.

Another word for sin in the Bible is “trespass.” In our wonderful Lord’s Prayer, “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” It is a minor infraction of this principle. “Trespassing” means an individual lapse, a temporary relapse. You and I begin to discuss a personality. What am I doing? He is only in a state.

So, I must think he is unemployed when you and I get into the discussion. I discuss a man who is unemployed and we see him as unemployed and begin to say: Well, conditions are bad, or maybe he was not good enough for the job, and you and I are discussing a man that is unemployed and we see only the state. I am trespassing. He is in the state. But I may fall into this little trap. We all do it, every day, all day long.

We read the paper, and a man is called a great man because he happens to be President, or maybe some other person in this world. We read some columnist about him and you are carried away with what the columnist tells us, and suddenly we begin to think as he would have you think, and you are trespassing. “Lord, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” It is a slight departure from our goal.

We are moved aside by what we read, or heard, or saw in this world. So, that is trespassing. So, I discuss someone who cannot find the job – well, will he qualify? I am asking all these things, and they are irrelevant to this principle. Not with this principle do they have any value whatsoever. What does he want? He wants a job. And how much does he want? He names a figure. Suppose that he had what he wanted – then let me assume it is true and I begin to see the world as I would see it for him were it true and feel the joy that would be mine were he now gainfully employed, earning that sort of money. This is either true, or it is false. I tell you: it is true.

If today you and I can say The Lord’s Prayer – but really say it – and ask forgiveness for our trespasses and let him show mercy for having gotten off the mark as it were. Read the story. He is brought in on the backs of four men. He himself had no faith.

But in spite of what they knew, there was still a certain faith, and they brought him into the presence of God, knowing God could forgive sin. And he said: “Because of your faith” – he speaks now to those who brought him; he did not speak to the man at first, then he addresses the paralytic: “My son, your sins are forgiven you.” Here, a vicarious faith. So, I can have the faith for you if you do not have it for yourself. You can have it for me if I don’t have it for myself.

Quite often vicarious faith is easier than the direct faith. If I can turn to you, if you really believe an imaginal act is a fact, and you could actually believe I am now what I would like to be, and although at the moment I doubt and am not faithful, you can say – in spite of myself you can pull me out – for a minute I would know faith. Those who brought him on their backs showed faith in bringing him into the presence of God. God commended them for their faith. And he turned to the paralytic and said: “My son, your sins are forgiven.” Those who heard thought it blasphemy. Who could forgive sin but God alone?

He did forgive sin, for he was the “I AM.” “Unless you believe I AM he, you die in your sins.” So, I ask you tonight, turn to your neighbor, and maybe you can hear what the other wants and rejoice in their good fortune, and they can rejoice in your good fortune Actually feel it is true, and see the world as it would be were they what they wanted to be – and they will become it.

So, this is the story of our ability to forgive sin. They were afraid when they saw what happened and then they crucified God because he had given such authority to men. We are told: “If you retain it, it is retained. If you release it, it is released.” I see a man and judge him by my senses. I retain it. But I could release him by seeing him standing on his own feet and moving in this world in a glorious manner.

So the material I formerly would discard as no good, I don’t discard anymore. I take it and use it. I take the same man that formerly I would discard and see him as gainfully employed, loved, and loving, and believe that the thing I am seeing for him is true; and to the degree I am faithful to the concept for him, it becomes true in this world.

That is our power. We have power to forgive sin. If you don’t have a mark in this world, you can’t sin. If hasn’t a thing to do with moral issues. No. Do you have a goal? Do you have some objective in this world? Then this is how you realize it. Suppose it were true. In Romans 8:4: “. . .walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Flesh would be my senses. My senses deny that I am what I would like to be. Let us not walk by flesh – let us walk by the Spirit. Spirit is to see it in my imagination as though it were true.

Tonight I may go home to find an empty cupboard or a notice at my door: “Tomorrow, or else.” It is all right. If I believe what I am imagining, it would make no difference what threat was given me – if I really believed. “Now believe it,” we are told. If you believe it, it will crystallize into fact. It does not really matter what threat at the moment my senses tell me -I have to ignore it. I have to ignore the four who brought me in this place. I will not now be borne anymore by these four. I will simply walk by spirit and not by flesh.

So, I ask you to try it. If you try it you can’t fail and – realizing your objective, may I also ask you to share it with me so that I may tell it to you. [the audience].

About three months ago a man sat in this audience, and he wrote me a sweet, wonderful letter which I received this morning. He expected a big bonus. He had worked hard with all the promise, and one who was never on the job, but by his estimate “one of the girl friends of the boss” – she got the big bonus. He, who had done all the work, got practically nothing.

So, he and I agreed mentally that he would have the most wonderful job, with more money and everything. This is now going on April. It seemed a long while, but today he is on the job, with more money than he had – more than he expected – more responsibility and opportunity, and everything. I remained faithful to that letter I knew would come when he would write it. And all I did, I heard him tell me (mentally) what he would tell me were it true, and I never wavered.

So, I only ask you to be as faithful to any imaginal state in this world, no matter what it is. In everyone God resides. Everyone has to say, “I am.” That is God. I am Einstein, I am Neville. I AM is God. Neville is a tiny thing resting on the foundation that is God. I am rich – that is a tiny thing on the foundation of God, and God is Infinity, God is Everything. Therefore, whatever you say, before you say it, you say, “I am” – and you listen and you notice the four men who brought him in, brought him in paralyzed. He isn’t that at all. But they deny it – the four senses are bringing him in and the four senses deny it, the four senses ignore it.

When you call on the name of God, you don’t say in the name of God, so-and-so; you ask with the name of God, and to ask with the name of God you say: “I AM wealthy, healthy, secure” – then you believe it. If you ask with the name of God and believe it mentally, you will see the world as you have never seen it before you made the claim, and remain faithful to that claim and it must crystallize in your world.

This is this principle and it goes with every being in the world, regardless of nationality or pigment of skin. It is all God. Everyone has to say, “I am” before he says, “I am – this . . .” “I am a man” – you say, “I am” before you said, “man.” “I am American,” “I am Indian,” “I am Japanese,” “I am Chinese.” What kind of a being would you like to be? You name it. “I AM” is doing it. Take this fabulous world of ours and take all your dreams and put them on the only foundation – no other foundation than God – and God is I AM.

So, the paralytic came here tonight in all of us, and we were borne on the backs of four men, and the four are our four senses: sight, scent, [sound], taste, and touch. Taste and touch are joined into one because they depend on contact. These are the four streams – the four rivers of life that come from the Garden of Eden. Any moment of time we are in the presence of I AM! Let him forgive me my sin. I forgive myself by daring to assume I am what I would like to be and assuming that I walk in that assumption and it crystallizes into fact. No power in the world can stop it – but none!

When we speak of sin, don’t let anyone scare you about sin. He comes to forgive the sinner. His only interest is in the sinner. The so-called moral violations – forget it! I do not ask you to violate them, but forget them. Everything will be ironed out. It is my duty. Through the consciousness of Paul, Ezekiel, Jesus – “If I don’t tell you what I know of God’s law, then your sin is upon my head; but if I tell you and you still will not believe me, you will die in your sin, but your blood will not be upon my head.”

So Paul said: “I will tell them. I have declared the entire counsel of God to them, so I am innocent of their blood.” Infinite states. A man falls into a state and so he is in the state, but he is not the state. Take him out of the state by saying while he is in the state: “What would you like?” and he names the state that he would like to enter. And you put him into that state by asking what it would be like if he were now the thing he would like to be; and you remain faithful – leaving him where he is – but you remain faithful to this concept and he comes out of it.

On reflection, he might say: “It would have happened anyway.” It is all right – you know. Tell everyone the story, and tell them it is entirely up to them. If they believe it – as we are told: “If you do not believe I AM He you die in your sins.” (John 8) When you read it, you might think a man is telling you: I am God, and you are not. The whole story is taking place in the soul of man. That is the story.

Now he tells us the truth: “You shall know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.” And they complained: “we are free.” Here they are enslaved, and we thought we were free. We are Americans, we are free. To what extent are we free? You can’t pay the rent or buy the food, and we think we are free. I can only be free if I know the art of forgiving sin, and the only one that can forgive sin is God – and God’s name is “I AM.”

In this world today, in our wonderful land, there are hundred of thousands in prisons physically – but they are Americans. There are hundreds of thousands who are unemployed, who can’t pay the rent. Free? They are Americans. I say go and tell every being in the world the story of God – as told us in both the Old and New Testament – and set them free. They can be free if they know who they are. I must tell them the story.

There is not one being in jail tonight, if you ask him who he is and how old he is, he will say: “I am John Smith, and I am . . .” and he will tell you his age. But before all these things, he tells you “I am.” I have seen this, you see. It frightens people, as you are told in Matthew 9:8: “When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.”

In San Francisco, when I told this story, a lady who sat in my audience had just received notice from the army that her brother had been tried, court marshaled, and sentenced to six months of hard labor. She went home and said: “If this man is telling the truth, I can set him free.”

She sat in her hotel apartment where she would see if anyone came in. She lost herself in the imaginal state that the bell was ringing and she ran down the stairs, threw the door open, and embraced a brother who was waiting there. She did it for one solid week. The next Sunday morning, before she came to my meeting, it happened.

When she came to my meeting, she could not restrain the impulse to rise and she jumped up in the audience of 1,000 and said she must tell the story, and she told it. He was honorably discharged, though he had been court marshaled and sentenced to six months at hard labor.

Everyone can be forgiven. He is not the same being he was – whatever he did to warrant the court martial – why should he pay the last ounce, if she could redeem him by pulling him out of the state that caused him to do whatever he did.

If I am pulled out of the state into another state – if I had someone tonight who was the most horrible beast in the world and I am determined to make him a loving, nice person, then he comes into my world and demonstrates his kindness by his act, by everything – he is not the same being he was when I disliked him – the same immortal soul, but he is in a different state. Always I was judging the state, but should I keep him in that state and make him pay a price that belongs only to that state?

You see, there is such a thing in this world as God’s mercy. No sins can be expiated unless God intervenes and is merciful – for you are God and you can intervene. He gave it to you. Only God can forgive sin, and you can forgive sin: therefore, are you not he? God is merciful. Can’t you be merciful and completely transform any being in the world? And oh! What a thrill it is to transform a being and see them different in a little while!

So I ask you to try it, it cannot fail. But believe the statement in the Lord’s Prayer: “Forgive us our trespasses.” We have actually trespassed. We have heard a rumor and we got off the beam. We see the signs all over the place: “No Trespassing,” but we step upon it. Don’t.

No matter what you hear of anyone, have no ears to hear it unless it is something lovely, for they are only discussing a state, and they are keeping that being in a state. Don’t listen. Pull everyone out, but don’t forget to pull yourself out. Put yourself into the most glorious state of being successful, being wanted, being happy. You try it. I promise you it will not fail you.

Now let us go in to the silence.

Whom Do You Seek
April 2, 1968

The Bible, from beginning to end, is the vision of the Lord God Jehovah, yet the message given there can be applied in a most practical manner.
In two weeks the Western world will be told the story of Good Friday. They will hear of a man who was in a garden with those who believe him, when a band of soldiers came looking for a certain person. Then it is said: “Knowing what was to befall him, Jesus came forward and said, ‘Whom do you seek?’ and they answered, ‘Jesus of Nazareth.’

Then he said to them, ‘I am.’ (The pronoun “he” is not in the original manuscript.) When they heard that, they drew back and fell to the ground. Again he asked, ‘Whom do you seek?’ and again they replied, ‘Jesus of Nazareth,’ and he said, ‘I told you that I am; so if you seek me, let these men go.’”

That is the story and when man first hears that the one who is speaking is his own wonderful I AMness, he falls to the ground in shocked disbelief. You see the word “Jesus” means, “I am.” Recorded in the Old Testament as “Jehovah the Lord”, when the name is revealed, it is “I am.” This is true all through scripture. When those who are seeking a savior on the outside hear that their own wonderful human imagination is Jesus, they draw back in shock, for they simply can’t believe it.

Now let me tell you a story I recorded in one of my books. The year was 1950 and the man is my brother-in-law. Having graduated from Harvard, he entered the banking business, where he remained for many years. Now, in the banking profession a promotion occurs only when someone dies, is fired, or resigns. Qualified to hold the finest job, he wanted the best for himself, his wife, and their two children. He was a pillar of the Episcopal Church in New York City, sitting on the planning committee, advising them as to the care of their money, yet he knew nothing of the art of prayer or the secret of Christ.

One day he came to the house, and telling me of his financial desires, he asked what he should do. When I asked him if he would like to be in the investment business, he replied: “I want it more than anything in the world.” Then I said: “Go to bed tonight knowing you are now investing large sums of money. Do that night after night and the position you desire will be yours.”

Shortly after his visit my family sailed to Barbados, where we remained for three months. When we returned, my brother-in-law and sister came for dinner and this is the story Sam told me. Three weeks after our previous visit he attended a meeting on Wall Street. After the meeting was over a man he had known for years came over to him and asked if he would consider leaving the bank and joining him. He then quoted a salary which was twice what Sam was presently making, as well as promising him a five week paid vacation every year.

Well, Sam was stunned beyond measure. He went home, discussed the offer with his wife, and they agreed it was a marvelous opportunity. That day he began his investment career representing the Rockefeller brothers – not the foundation, but the five brothers and their sister. He never bought stock, only suggested it. One day he told me he worked with one portfolio for $394 million, and that’s just one of many! Sam remained there for eight years, leaving to become a junior partner in a brokerage firm.

I wrote his story in one of my books and gave him a copy. A short time later while visiting them I discovered my book had found its place on a top shelf, completely out of reach. They had read the book, but as a pillar of the church with its orthodox concept of things, they could not associate the Jesus they worshiped with what they did, and the next time I went to their home, my book was completely out of sight. As a Harvard man, he could not believe that one who had never seen the inside of a college had helped him.

So whom do you seek? Is it not Jehovah, the savior of the world? The one who created all things, and without him there is not a thing made that is made? Sam knew what he did to get the job, but he could not believe that what he did was Jesus. Through the years we have remained close and dear friends, but never has one word been said concerning this.

At dinner he gives grace and thanks someone on the outside for their food, doing it by rote. He can’t help it, for it is part of his training, but the day will come when he will discover who Jesus is. He found him, but – unable to recognize him – he turned his back upon the one and only one [who] is Jesus Christ. We are told: “He who is not with me is against me and he who will not gather with me, scatters.” At the present time Sam is not with me, but continues to worship something on the outside. Now you see how practical this story is.

Do you seek Jesus? Say “I am” and you have found him. Man finds it so difficult to understand that his own wonderful human imagination is the being he is seeking, but the day will come when he will find him. On that day Jesus’ Son will stand before him and call him “Father”. Jesus is not Jehovah’s son as you were taught. Jesus is Jehovah. Now, if Jehovah has a son and Jesus is Jehovah, is not David the Son? One day the veil will be lifted and God’s Son, David, will stand before you and call you “Father”. Until then, although many will listen to my words, they – like my brother-in-law – will not accept it.

Everything came about as Sam desired it to be. They are now living in a beautiful apartment. Their children have graduated from Smith and Harvard and in two more years he plans to retire and travel throughout the world. Sam found Jesus but did not recognize him. He is still looking for something on the outside – but may I tell you: no physical man is Jesus.

If anyone comes to you saying he is a holy man, do not believe him. Jesus is holy, for Jesus is Jehovah, he who can only be recognized through his Son, as it takes God’s Son, David, to reveal your true identity, that of being the Lord God Jehovah. Jesus Christ, that’s who you really are, and only God’s Son can reveal it to you. I know the truth of which I speak, for it has happened to me. The world teaches that everything is on the outside. That your success or failure depends upon where you live, the church you attend, your school or college education. This they believe because they do not know Jesus Christ, who is their own wonderful human imagination!

When I asked Sam, he told me that regardless of how disillusioned or tired he was, he imagined every night, and that although he had known the gentleman for many years, he had never been approached until three weeks after he had applied this principle. Sam saw the results of what he did. He knew he did it, but he could not believe that what he did was Jesus Christ!

So I ask you: whom do you seek? Do you seek Jesus, the savior of every being in the world? Jesus can save you from whatever you are. He can save you from missing your mark in life. “His name shall be called Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins,” and to sin is to miss your mark. Who is he? Your I am! Can you believe that? Is that idea so shocking to you that like those recorded in scripture you fall to the ground, then rise again to ask the same question: “Whom do you seek?” Jesus? I have told you he is your I am. And if you are really seeking me, then let the idea of a man go!

You aren’t seeking a man, a new president to lead you. You don’t need any leader. All you need is Jesus! It doesn’t matter who is the president tomorrow. A few years ago our president was voted in by an enormous majority, and tonight everyone is disillusioned, for they sought a man. Don’t seek a little man of flesh and blood, for flesh cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus is Spirit. While walking in a garment of flesh and blood, Jesus will awaken in you!

This is the story that will be told on Good Friday, but not as you have heard it this night. And Sam will be ushering the people into that grand old church, just as he has done for years. He was married in that church. His children were baptized there and he has been active all these years, but he does not know Christ.

I introduced him to Christ, for by him all things are made, and without him was not anything made that was made. I brought him to the only living Christ and he proved himself in the testing, yet Sam continues to believe in a false Christ – a Christ he will meet on the outside, not knowing that Christ dwells within.

I have been quoting the 18th chapter of John, the 4th to the 8th verses. As you read this you see they first play the garden scene and then it is said: “Jesus, knowing all that was to befall him…” The phrase “to befall him” in the Revised Standard Version, is translated in the King James Version as “to come upon him.” This phrase in Greek means: “a pressure from above that is mental or emotional which causes changes in the world.” So Jesus said to Pilate: “You could do nothing to me were it not given you from above.”

You see you are really not here in the true sense of the word. The being that is externalized here is putting on pressure, and you are willingly playing the part. And when everything is done that scripture says you will do, you will awaken as the one who placed the pressure on yourself. That is why I have no power over you were it not given me from above; therefore I who deliver you into the hands of another have the greatest sin. But as you move through the play, he who is pressing himself upon you, forcing you to do everything you have ever done, will be forgiven. “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.” Then you will awaken to the realization that your I am is God. See how practical the story is?

Now let us go back to the three manuscripts which make up what is called the Law of Moses. The manuscripts only have initials, which are J, E, and P. Although scholars tell us “J” means “Jehovah”, “E” the “Elohim” and “P” the “Priestly Code”, no one really knows who they are. J and P begin: “In the beginning God” But “E” begins on the 15th chapter of Genesis, stating: “After these things…” (In other words, after what is called the creation, the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.)

After these experiences, one is found who will do these incredible things. Then it is said: “The word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision. And the Lord said to him, ‘Fear not Abram, I am your shield; great shall be your reward.’” Then comes a discussion between the two concerning the child. Abram wants a child to be his heir and the promise is made: “Your own son shall be your heir, and not one born into slavery.” Then it is said: “A deep sleep fell upon Abram and a great darkness fell upon him” as the Lord told him of the horrors that would take place, and promising him that after his journey is over he would awaken with great possessions.

Now, in the New Testament it is said: “The Lord spoke to Joseph in a dream,” and there is no record, either in the Old or the New, of their awakening! May I tell you: Abraham – he who believes, and Joseph – the dreamer, awaken when God in Man rises. Then Man, who has been searching for salvation on the outside, awakens to discover that he is the Lord who imposed all of the horrors upon himself. So you see: the “E” manuscript records events from Abraham on; events that take place in vision, for the drama of creation takes place in all!

Now, what I have told you this night about my brother-in-law can be applied to transcend any limitation desired, I don’t care what it is. I knew by nature Sam would do what he said he would. He had promised that even though it was not rational (and Sam is a rational man), he would sleep in the assumption his desire was fulfilled until I returned from Barbados. Then he would tell me it didn’t work! Knowing Sam would not falter in the doing, I knew by that time it would be done, and of course it was.

So I urge everyone to take my words seriously and try it. When you go to bed tonight, catch the feeling that would be yours if your desire were now realized. Then fall asleep in that feeling. If you do it, you will not fail. How it is going to happen I do not know; I only know that if you do it, it will happen. And when it does, don’t forget the lesson you have learned.

Sam has money now and continues to invest it in the world of Caesar, but has forgotten the principle behind it all and is looking for a physical Jesus on the outside. May I tell you: he has a great surprise in store for him, for when he dies, there will be no Jesus there to welcome him. Instead he will be restored to life in a body the same as before. His body will be young and unbelievably new, as he finds himself in an environment best suited for the work yet to be done in him. This he will continue to do until he finds and believes in Jesus.

Everyone is looking for Jesus Christ, for Jesus is Jehovah and Jehovah is the Lord God, the Savior of the world. And when you find him you discover his name is “I am.” So when you go to the people of Israel and they say, “Who sent you?” just say: “I am.” That’s all! If you do not believe you are this fabulous being, that your own wonderful human imagination is the cause of the phenomena of your life, you are still searching for its cause. But when you are convinced, you will begin to awaken and discover that there never was another God. Then you will see how practical this vision of God really is.

Your own wonderful human imagination is the Lord Jesus. Prove it! Believe in the only Jesus, for all things are made by him and without him is not anything made that is made. It is he who made the statement in the Book of Deuteronomy: “I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal.” The same being who wounds, heals, because imagination does it all!

So you see how practical and wonderful this whole principle is?
Tonight, if you really want something – I don’t care what it is – you can have it. For your own sake I hope it will not injure another. You don’t have to hurt anyone to get what you want; all you have to do is accept it! To live as though you had it now! And when you get it (and you will) I urge you to share your good news with others to encourage all.

The other day my barber was telling of a conflict in his family and I said to him: “The problem is within you. Change your thoughts of your family and they will change.” Well, he didn’t understand me, but that’s all right.

If I have to tell him seventy times seven times, I will because the story must be told. The boy who shines my shoes tells me about going to church on Sunday then having dinner with friends. He loves to be a part of that group. That’s religion! But when he asks me a question I try to tell him who Jesus Christ really is. It hasn’t gotten through, but that’s all right.

Release a drop of water on a piece of granite and it will take a while to penetrate, but if you keep on dropping the water eventually it will get through. Well, water is truth and every time you tell of the true Jesus Christ you have released a drop of water.

Christ is your own wonderful human imagination. That’s an awful shock, and when you first hear it your world collapses, for there is no one to turn to but self! Formerly you could point to another as the cause of your misfortune, but you can no longer do that when you discover who Jesus Christ really is. From that moment on you must turn to yourself to blame or praise. And when you have played all of the parts, you will find him of whom you seek, Jesus of Nazareth!

Now let us go into the silence.

John 14: “I am the way and the truth and the light. No one comes unto the Father, but by me”. Philip said to him, “Show us the Father” and Jesus says, “I have been so long with you and yet you do not know me Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How then can you say, Show us the Father?” So he is the Way to what?

In this passage, specifically to the Father but he is the way to everything in this world. Good, bad or indifferent! This seems insane if you’re trained to believe that God is a creator of good only and some other being, other than God created the evil.

There is only one creator – only one God. “I kill and I make alive. I wound and I heal.” There is nothing but God and God is your own wonderful human Imagination.

Let us now find out why then are we acting as we act in this world; let us go back to scripture, the 82nd Psalm. “And God has taken his place in the divine council, in the midst of the gods he holds judgment.” Now God speaks, “I say you are gods, sons of the most high, all of you. Nevertheless, you shall fall and die like men and fall as one man, oh princes.” Now, you think this took place in eternity and it’s not
related to us — but it is related to us. You are the gods in the state that is fallen.

Not because you did anything that was wrong. It is for a purpose, a creative purpose. To expand beyond what we were prior to the fall. Here we fell into the limit of opacity and contraction called man, of flesh and blood. Regardless of the pigment of skin or nationality or any racial background, we are One. The word translated God is the Hebrew word “Elohim”. It is a plural word. It is translated in this passage as both God and gods. It is a compound unity — one made up of others.

One made up of all the others.

So here we are in this world in states: The rich man, the poor man, the man that is known, the man that is unknown, the man that is wise, the man that is foolish. All these are the gods. We are not rich or poor, known or unknown, wise or foolish.

These are only states, states into which we have fallen in our sleep. For we actually fell into this world made up of infinite states.

Now there is a way out of a state into another state. You can get into a state in a second. It doesn’t take time but will you remain in that state and occupy it until it seems natural. For my home is simply that state to which I most constantly return.

That constitutes my home. A state … how would I know my state? Well, let me now think of my friends. Let them see me as they always see me. They know my limitations, my weaknesses, they know all the things about me for we have discussed it. That I desire to be seen differently in the world — first by myself — I want to transcend my limitations. So I assume that I have it — a mere assumption.

But does it work? Well, now let me think of my friends — let me see them in my mind’s eye. Do they see me as they formerly saw me? Or are they seeing me as I am assuming that I am? If they see me as I am assuming that I am and empathize with me, because they are friends, rejoice with me, then can I now so occupy the state that automatically I return to it long before there is anything in my world to support this claim. My senses at the moment deny it, my reason denies it but in spite of this denial, can I still believe in Christ. Can I still believe that he is The Way to everything and he is my own wonderful human imagination? Can I believe? For we actually fell into this world made up of infinite states.

Now there is a way out of a state into another state. You can get into a state in a second. It doesn’t take time but will you remain in that state and occupy it until it seems natural. For my home is simply that state to which I most constantly return.

My senses at the moment deny it, my reason denies it but in spite of this denial, can I still believe in Christ. Can I still believe that he is The Way to everything and he is my own wonderful human imagination? Can I believe? Forwe are told, whatever you desire, believe you have received it and you will.” These are the words of Christ. Christ is called the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.

Scripture takes “Wisdom” – listen to the words of the 8th of Proverbs – “And the Lord possessed me at the beginning of his way. Before his works of old I was set up as everlasting ere the earth was. When he laid out the foundation of the earth, then I was beside him like a little child. I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always. He who finds me, finds life. He who misses me, injures himself. All who hate me love death.”

He is called “the little child.” Here, wisdom is exalted and personalized as God’s companion in the creation of the word.” Here, this is scripture – well, who is this Christ? He is the little child we are told. And Christ is in man, “Know ye not that Christ is in you?” “Test yourself and see whether you are holding to the faith – do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you” and he is the little child who is God’s eternal companion in the creation of the universe.

Now, he contains within himself (so scripture teaches) and “has made known unto me the purpose of his will which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time.” So here, this child contains within himself a plan, a pattern for the fullness of time.

Now in the world of Caesar you and I, the fallen gods who came down for a purpose, can achieve any goal in this world if we know who we are and are willing to test it. Willing to dare it and accept the challenge that I can be the man that I dream of being by daring to assume, in spite of my senses denying it, that I am the man that I want to be and sleep in this assumption as though it were true. As the great Shakespeare said, “Assume a virtue if you have it not.”

Restrain tonight. It will lend a kind of easiness to the next abstinence and the next still more easy. So if I do it, believing that it be true and it proves itself in the testing, then what does it matter what the wisdom of man tells me. For this is the wisdom of Christ. Must I know the right people? That’s what men will tell me. Must I have the right educational background? That’s what men will tell me. They will give me all the reasons in the world based upon what man thinks and the wisdom of man is foolishness in the eyes of God.

So If I dare to assume what I want to be and persist in that assumption until it seems natural so that when I think of my friends that is what they see in me, what I have assumed that I am — and I act and live in this way as though it were true — well, if time brings forward the results of my assumption, then haven’t I confirmed the truth and wisdom of Christ?

Well, all that is on this level. Tonight I want to take you into the level of The Way. You have no idea of how truly wonderful you are because you are the God that fell. “You shall fall as one man, oh princes.” Together we are the God, the Lord, for the Lord is the compound unity of one made up of others. We are the gods.

But there is a way by which we return to that divine congregation, the congregation of God, and there is only one way; “I am the way” and the truth and the life.” Here is the true and living way. He not only points the way, for he is the pattern, he is the Way. Union with Christ is the only way to God the father. Well, how do I have union with Christ? He’s in you. When he begins to erupt within me and begins to unfold his pattern, for the pattern is in me and it begins with the first personalization of Christ, which is the little child. And everyone will have this experience.

Here in this world we are born from below and we are evil – let no one tell you we are not. The Bible teaches it. Listen to the words, “The first child of Abraham, born of a slave, Hagar. His name was Ishmael and this is the prophecy of the Lord to Ishmael – his descendants will be more numerous than you can count. Today we are 3 1/2 billion in the world. They estimate in the not distant future there will be 5 billion of us and they will go to other billions of us. These are the descendants, these fleshy bodies of Ishmael.

Now this is what is said to Ishmael, “He is a wild ass of a man. His hand shall be against every man and every man’s hand against him” and that is individual man. There isn’t a moment in time we aren’t killing each other not only in our great conflicts of war and gas chambers where we put millions in it, but on the streets, all over the world we kill each other. But not only in such violence, there are more subtle ways of killing – in the economic field.

You can take a whole family and crush them and then they all starve through your individual greed to take from him the little he needs to feed his little flock and actually put him to the wall economically. It has been going on since the beginning of time. So there are multiple ways of murder in this world. It didn’t end with Abel’s murder; it is part of the wild ass of a man that we are at birth. So man is born really an evil being and he requires a new selfhood and the ancients saw it plainly by revelation.

To the entire aggregation of experimental theory and many of them believed what they saw and prophesied of Jesus. The prophecy is all in scripture, the coming of the saviour, now he doesn’t come as you were taught to believe. He is in you. He is the pattern of salvation buried in man and when he comes, everything said of him you experience and you’ll be taken back by this one way, by the way of Christ, from this world of sin and death back into the divine congregation having done the job you were sent to do. And we are all returning into that one God.

There is only one Body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all and we go right back into that body and this time enhanced because there is no limit to translucency, no limit to expansion. There is only a limit to opacity and contraction and we have reached that limit of contraction and opacity. We now will start the expansion and the thing begins to expand in us and the Plan unfolds in us, and that is the only way by which we return to that divine congregation.

There is no other way. Diets won’t do it. Knowing the right people won’t do it. You can meditate from now ’til the ends of time – go and sit on a mattress ’til you simply turn into worms, you still can’t do it. Nothing on the outside is going to do it. You simply put all of your hope on this grace that is coming to you at the unveiling of Christ within you. Then the whole thing unveils within you and you are the same being (in the eyes of those who know you) as you were before, the same being, primitive being. And they look at you amazed that you dare to claim that you have experienced Christ because their concept of Christ is so false. Hasn’t a thing to do with Christ of scripture.

Example: 3 years ago in Barbados, we had a small dinner party, two ministers and their wives (lovely men), well known and well liked. I said I had experienced the story of Jesus Christ – that it was not a secular story at all, not a thing to do with the world of Caesar. While we walk in this world we are redeemed by the pattern unfolding in us; that Christ is the pattern man, buried in man and the pattern unfolds and you are He.

So I came to the point of David. I said to the Episcopalian that after birth of the Christ child within me, a child that I held in my own hands and expressed my feeling of tenderness towards the Christ child, then 5 months later I encountered God’s only begotten son and his name is David, David of scripture. “I will tell of the decree of the Lord: he said unto me, Thou art my son, today I have begotten thee.”

And then to illustrate to him, being an Episcopalian, I said that in 22 Mathew and 20 Luke you’ll read, “He asked those who listened to him, What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? And they answered, The Son of David. He said, why then did David in the spirit call him Lord? If David thus calls him Lord, then how can he be David’s son?” I said to him, David in the spirit called me “father”, and I knew that I was his father and I knew that he was my son – we both knew this relationship of father-son. The Episcopalian minister said to me that he did not call him “father”, he called him “my Lord.” I said that is an expression every child in the ancient world used concerning his or her father. So when scripture records “my Lord”, it is only telling you it is “my father”. Well, he wouldn’t go along with that. It was a nice dinner party so I didn’t press it.

But here, in Genesis 31:35 – Genesis is the seed; the very seed plot of the whole Bible. If you don’t know Genesis, you aren’t going to know the Bible. Here is a story. If you are not familiar with it – Jacob had two women, two sisters, Leah and Rachel. He thought that his father-in-law, Laban, was not as favourably disposed towards him now as he formerly had been and so without telling Laban what he planned to do, he hastily gathered all his possessions together (camel, goats, sheep) and his two women and took off.

When Laban found out what Jacob had done, he started off in pursuit of him and found him and accused him of stealing his household gods. He searched Jacob, his caravan, couldn’t find them. He searched Leah’s rooms and couldn’t find them. He went into Rachel’s rooms and Jacob didn’t know Rachel had taken the gods. So she took them and put them into the saddle of a camel and then sat upon the saddle. So when the father came in, he searched diligently and he couldn’t find them. She said to her father (actual quote from 31:35), “And she said to her father, let not my Lord, be angry…” Equates “father” with “my Lord”. She gives reasons why she couldn’t rise, because “I cannot rise before you for it is as it is unto women … the ways of women are upon me.” For that is a reason, for that little moment in a woman’s life that comes every month.

It is mentioned as “manner” when it comes to Sarah, “I at 90 years old could have a son? When it has long ceased to be with me after the manner of women.” She could no longer conceive but this one could, for she was a young one, Rachel – and she is simply stating that this is that moment of the month and therefore I cannot rise before my Lord. So she is calling her father “my Lord.”

If you do not understand this seed plot you are going to miss the entire Bible. He told me, “No. He called him my Lord.” I said, “That meant my father” and explained the ancient always called the father “my Lord”. He didn’t see it because he couldn’t believe that David, who is not taught in his concept of Christianity, to be the Son of God in spite of the fact he reads it in the 2nd Psalm.

He was taught so long to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, not knowing that they are one — “I and my father are one.” He who sees me has seen the father. How then can you say, “Show us the father.” So the creative power of God can’t be separate from God. It is God! The wisdom of God can’t be torn away from God — it is God! So that is a pattern in man for man’s redemption.

So we are the gods. If you dwell upon that fact that we are the gods, everyone, even though we kill each other, but the killing of each other is simply a grand illusion, for the gods cannot die. They seem to die but they cannot. As the serpent said, and he was called the wisest creature that God had made, a symbol once more of Jesus Christ, “And God said to you, you would die? Yes, you will not surely die. The day you eat thereof you’ll become as the gods, knowing good and evil.”

Well, his prophecy came true. For then the gods said, Behold the man has become as we are, knowing good and evil.” So he did not lie, nor beguile. He simply prophesied a truth, which came to pass. But, all the wisdom of man in this world is not good enough to redeem man. A pattern had to be contained in man to redeem him. And there is no other way to God.

So you will get these arguments, surely to the Chinese, Indian, to the so and so, there must be another way other than the way you call the Christian way. No. There are the Christian Indians, Christian Chinese, etc. They are all over the world. The foundation is Judaism and Judaism the seed plot. It is the foundation while Christianity is its fulfilment.

It is not the other way around. Christ comes fulfil but doesn’t come the way you were taught – a woman giving birth to a child. There is a woman but not that woman who bears from below. That’s Hagar and she can only bear children into slavery. But there is another woman, the woman from above called “Jerusalem from above,” and she bears into liberty.

Now here is a lovely experience of a friend who is here tonight. She said, “I found myself on a horse – I’m riding. Then my mother dies. Then I take the place of my mother.” That’s the dream. May I tell her, that is an enormous leap forward – an enormous leap forward. The horse is always the symbol of the mind and you the rider to control it. It must have someone to control the mind.

If my mind isn’t controlled by me, the rider, then it goes berserk. So I am riding the horse of my mind. Now my mother dies. I was born by a woman – a woman gave me birth – this garment. So that is my mother, my physical mother in the world of Caesar. Now my mother dies and I take her place because there must be a second birth. I must be the twice-born man. But the second one, I’ll give birth to myself. So I have to become the mother. So my second birth is when I give birth to myself. So she has become the woman who is now capable of giving birth to herself. In that one simple little dream an enormous leap in the right direction toward this second birth.

Then these two experiences – one from three gentlemen – very humorous, “I fell asleep simply desiring to teach the Bible. So I imagined I was teaching the Bible and instructing a group. I fell into a sleep from my daydream into a real sleep and here I am teaching the Bible, explaining it and telling them how to interpret it. While I am doing this, suddenly I see this light and energy coming from my head, an enormous head [my head and face seemed twice the size].

Well, with all this energy and enormous power, even my knees seemed to be radiating energy – I thought I would now do something about it. I thought I was awake. I had been sleeping for an hour or two and thought I was a wake. So I got off my bed in my 3rd floor apartment, went downstairs and thought I’ll go and see Jan. I’m going to fly and I’ll take this energy and simply use it and fly. So when I got downstairs I said, “How stupid of me. I could have flown through the window from the 3rd floor – so I went back upstairs to the 3rd floor and I took off.

There I am flying at 10 to 15 feet above the ground on my own energy. It is dark – it’s early in the morning and I’m on my way to Jan’s. I say to myself, “I’m not getting a good view from 15 feet so I’ll simply go a little higher and I increased the altitude. Up I went for a better view and I thought to myself, supposing a cop takes a pot shot at me because they see this man flying through space, he might all of a sudden shoot me, at least try to.

But I said to myself, No, he can’t – he can’t see me,” So when I got to Jan’s place, I said, “No, her daughter will be home now and if I disturb her daughter, she’ll give me hell.” So I thought, “I’ll now go to Marge’s instead.” Flew off to Marge’s house. But arriving there I thought, Oh now suppose instead of Marge answering the door, her husband Ray answers. That would be terrible.” So I flew back home again. Went back to bed and suddenly I put my hand up and it went 18 inches above my head.

Couldn’t feel my head. Then when I could feel my head, all that strange feeling disappeared and I’m once more normal, back on the bed. “But, he said, I did it!” I know that there is something in me that is a power – there is a wisdom that is not known to this little thing I put to bed and wake in the morning. There is something in me now stirring and I proved it before I was fully conscious in everything I did.

Another gentleman, and he’s here tonight, “I found myself in an ancient city. I was there for the purpose of teaching everyone to fly. So I took of – no machine, and I made the most beautiful swan dive, beautiful gentle descent after taking off and came gently down on my back. Then at that moment I looked up and here stands my Jan. (His Jan is very dear to him and she happens to be his mother-in-law).

There she is dressed in a monk’s robe. She isn’t a day over 20 – perfectly beautiful – dressed in a monk’s robe. And she takes my hand in her hands and silently congratulates me on my feat. And then it suddenly is changed a bit and here is my brother Paul at my side. I do have in this world of Caesar a brother whose name is Paul. At that moment I awoke.

I was fully awake at the doing – I knew I was dreaming and I knew I was doing what I was doing. You can call it a dream within a dream, but I knew I was dreaming exactly what I was doing when did it.

So here we are becoming aware of this power in us and use it in many ways until finally the pattern unfolds. And it comes suddenly, like a thief in the night. No one knows when Christ will erupt in man but Christ is the pattern man, not a man who walked the earth 2000 years ago. When we fell as one man the pattern came with us or we couldn’t even breathe. This is the power within us, the wisdom within us.

And the only escape from this world of sin and death is by the way of Christ, which is the pattern man. So you will start with the birth of Christ, you will be born from above, and all that is said of him in scripture concerning that infant child wrapped in swaddling clothes, you will experience. It will be your experience, your child, your birth – that is a sign of your birth.

Then comes the discovery of the fatherhood – of God and you are the father, God, for his son calls you father. How this is the great mystery – how can you, individualized as you are – how can the sleeper, individualized as he is – be one?

Well, if your son calls me father and he is my son, then are we not one God, one father? For your David is not going to be other than the David who called me father. There is only one David. And that one David will call everyone, when it unfolds within him, “father.” You will know that you are the father and you will know scripture and God is his father, “For I will tell of the decree of the Lord. He said unto me, Thou art my son. Today I have begotten thee.”

Well, if the whole vast world of billions of us have this experience where God’s son calls him father, and he knows it as there is no uncertainty to this relationship – then are we not all one? One Father, one Body, one Spirit, one Lord, one God and Father of all. And it takes the son to reveal it – for “No one has ever seen God but the only son who is in the bosom of the father he has made him known.”

So you can’t look at me and see the father. Only the son can tell me that I am the father – and he tells it to me in a first person, present tense experience. So you can believe me or disbelieve. That’s your privilege. But I do know you are going to have it and after you have had it, you’ll know the truth of my words and you will know that we are one. You and I are actually one because we have the same son. If we are the father of the same son, then we are one father. So no one has ever seen the seen the son – no one knows who the son is except the father.

And no one knows who the father is except the son and anyone to whom the son chooses to reveal him. Well, if no one knows who the son is except the father and you are going to tell me that you see him on the outside? How are you going to see him on the outside when only the father knows him? You will never see him on the outside. This drama unfolds within you. It is a divine drama – the drama of salvation, when the son comes before you and calls you father.

So here these two must come first. Then comes the splitting of the temple where you do not take the blood of another, the blood of a goat, etc. You take your own blood. You are split from top to bottom and at the base of your spine is golden, liquid light. It is the blood of God and you are it. For it was just revealed to you just four months before that you are the father of God’s only begotten son. So who now is split?

It is you and therefore it is God who is split from top to bottom. It is God’s blood and it’s your blood and you fuse with it and up you go as prophesied in scripture right into the temple of your own being.

Then the dove will descend two years and nine months later and smother you with affection. Who is the dove but the symbol of the Holy Spirit who descends upon him and this is a completed drama. From then on your work here is finished and you only linger to tell it. Either write it out or tell it to those who will listen to it carefully. Maybe they will write it or maybe they will continue telling it. But you tell it while you remain for the remaining days or years. Then when you depart this time, you depart forever. You have ascended into heaven, back into that divine congregation.

So Jesus Christ does not merely point the way, He is the way. Jesus Christ is the only way to God the Father and the union is simply the unfolding of the pattern in you. You can’t get any closer than that when the pattern unfolds in you, not as something on the outside but in the first person, present tense experience. It is not happening to him, it is happening to me. And so that is union with Christ for he is the pattern. Christ is the pattern man. The whole thing unfolds within the individual and then he knows who Christ is. Then he knows the gospel; he knows scripture.

So even though an able, brilliant, intelligent man like my friend in Barbados who would stand and be blocked by that one little thing, that I said he called me father. He said, “No, he called Christ ‘my Lord and could not get over that hump, that the ancient always called the father, my Lord.

Well, chronologically speaking, wasn’t David of the ancient world? If you take it chronologically he was supposed to have lived – which he didn’t, as we understand it – 1000 BC. Here it is 2000 A.D. and here is a man who is only 63 claiming that one who lived 3000 years ago is his son. I tell you, he is my son. More so than any physical son who calls me father. He is 44, but he is not any more my son. I am told by his mother that I sired him. I take that on faith.

But I have no woman in David – he has no mother. I have begotten him – he is my son – he has no mother. Unlike my physical son who has a mother and I have to go on faith that I did participate in this creation of a body. But that is purely on faith. In this case there is no uncertainty when he stands before you and calls you father. You have always been his father and he has always been your son. And there is no other creator in bringing him into that relationship of son to father. So there is no mother.

If you read scripture carefully, in spite of the fact the book of Ruth does give him a mother and in Chronicles. But Chronicles is not altogether as complete as Samuel. Samuel is the book that tells the story of David and the most scholarly of all biblical criticism, which is the Encyclopaedia Biblica, states quite openly that by tradition he had no mother.

But churches have inserted, throughout scripture, in spite of the warning, “do not add to the words of this book,” and they have added verse after verse simply – to build up the traditions of man. But these are not the revelations of God as recorded by the ancients. So when new editions come out, we delete anything that has been inserted that was not there in the original manuscripts. So you’ll find many things inserted and that is one where they gave him a mother to give it reason in the world because how can you have a man, and he doesn’t have a mother?

So to give it a secular treatment, they put a mother into the picture and David has no mother, read it carefully and you’ll find in the book of Samuel he has none. Also you find in the 2nd Psalm, “I will tell of the decree of the Lord” – he didn’t speak of any mother. “You are my son. Today I have begotten thee.” Here he is the anointed of the Lord.

So the only way to God is union with Christ. There is no other way. And whether there are 3 1/2 billion of us in the world and tomorrow 5 billion and maybe eventually 10 billion, it makes no difference. That is the fulfillment of prophesy. “I’ll give you descendants more numerous than you can number.” That is said of Ishmael and we are Ishmael – the wild ass whose hand is against every man and every man’s hand against his.

The kindest person in the world, push him hard enough and threaten someone he loves, and you’ll find he is not quite as gentle as he thought he was. He will react as an animal would react if pressed hard enough. Threaten the one he loves like a child, his wife, or her husband, and if that really is a deep affection, they will die in the attempt to protect what they love. Well, that is the being spoken of as Ishmael, his hand against every man and every man’s hand against his.

The economic war is just as great, in fact more so, than the war. When people are impoverished by the greed of others, not just one person suffers, many do. First of all, they are embarrassed, they are lowered into extreme poverty and so to again another euphemism instead of calling it poor, no, he is underprivileged. So we take all these words and dress up the so hard, hard statements where if we use them, we’ll see exactly what the man is. He is poor – he has nothing. No, he’s underprivileged. Well, a person can be underprivileged and still not be poor but they don’t say that.

I tell you, the conflict is on. It was all foreseen. “You will die like men and fall like one man, oh princes.” It was not because you and I did anything that was wrong for this is God’s plan and we agreed to dream in concert, to fall into these states and then come out of these states having experienced them. “So I do not consider either the just or the wicked to be in a supreme state, but to be every one of them states of the sleep the soul may fall into in its deadly dreams of good and evil, as it leaves paradise following the serpent.

When he falls into these states he falls into something that is either lovely or unlovely. Those who find themselves in a comfortable state, they think they earned it because of some past. No they haven’t earned anything – these are only states. Today, money – my father always had a statement, “Money doesn’t care who owns it.” So don’t let anyone tell you because a man is rich that they are in any way superior.

If most who have money would just go back a generation or so, they wouldn’t want to write about it – not its origin. They’ll brag about the fruit of the tree but not how the tree came into being. So let no one brag about it.

You can be anything you want to be if you know this law. They are all states. How would I feel if it were true? Then try to feel what you would feel if it were true. Then look into my mind for confirmation of that assumption, and see my friends congratulating me. See my friends empathize with me. They actually are so rejoicing with me that I know they are seeing what I am seeing. Now let me make the habit of this way of thinking and so when I go to bed, feel this state. When I wake tomorrow and everything denies it, feel that state. The state felt to which I return constantly becomes my home and that home objectified itself and crystallizes in my world.

But never forget the Vision, Keep the Divine Vision in time of trouble. The Divine Vision in the story of Jesus Christ He is the pattern. So no matter what happens to you, always keep the Divine Vision in time of trouble. You have seen it in words and one day you will experience it.

You’ve heard it. I have told you exactly what happened to me and I am not alone. In this audience there are others who have experienced it and many others are on the verge of it. May I tell you, I’m thrilled beyond measure. I’m waiting eagerly for anyone at any time, or many, to tell me, call me up, write me, “I’ve had the birth.”

Because I know on the heels of that, only nine months and the three major ones are over. And then two years nine months later, what’s that – what’s two years and nine months waiting to complete the 42 months of revelation, or the times, time and 1/2 a time, or the 1260 days. This is the measurement between the birth and its completeness when the dove descends.

So I cannot give you anything comparable to this. If tonight you inherited by the use of the law a million dollars, a billion dollars, how could it compare to departure from the world into which you have fallen and go back enriched because no one is going back poor. Everyone is going back enriched because we are the gods.

We came down for a purpose. Everyone who returns by way of Christ – and there is no other way but by the way of Christ – goes right back into the one body, the one spirit, the one Lord, the one God and father of it all. There is rejoicing in heaven because one has returned and they are coming up one after the other.

So you will have it, and you’ll tell others to encourage them to hold onto the vision and keep the faith to the very end. And then all will eventually return. When all these masks are off, the white mask, pink mask, black mask we were never the masks we wore. We were the gods we were before the fall and we are still the Gods that we were, only enhanced by reason of experience of the fall, for we came down into death and conquered death. Died like men yes. Yet still overcame death.
Now let us go into the silence.

… other than to assume you don’t need the aid of any being in this world. The power within you can do it all. It is Christ. Assume the most noble concept of yourself that you are honored in this world – a nice feeling. Not among men by putting funny little things on you, but to feel honored. You feel dignified. No matter where you go you feel welcome – that no closed doors regardless of the present limitations, there aren’t any closed doors.

And you feel and walk this way. Then may I tell you doors will open — all over. So no chip on your shoulder, no battles to fight, you know who you are! You are God. You don’t have to go on the street and scream, “I am God” but you know it! That is far greater than talking it and trying to persuade others that you are and they are not, because there is no one who is not’ God. Every child born of woman is that one descending from the divine society. Everyone! And that one by one way and one way only is going to return after his journey is over.

Are there any questions please?

Q: I don’t understand why when a child is born here in this material world it sometimes, at the age of 2 or 3 or 4 leaves.

A: Sir, departure from this world is not death. It is a lesson for those that are left behind. The individual who departs from this world finds himself instantly restored in a body, same as before, but new.

Unaccountably new in a world just like this yet terrestrial world, and he is in an environment best suited for the work to be done in him. That work is the unfolding of this pattern man. His entrance here could be for the most fantastic lesson for the parent. I have in New York City two darlings. They met in my meeting on a blind date. She had just enough to go to Paris and he hadn’t yet been to Paris at the time.

She said, “Neville, it seems insane. All I have is a quickie, one week and I have to live in a very modest little place, but I’ve longed to go to Paris. I know no one there. Do you think I’m foolish?” I said, “No. As far as I’m concerned, do anything your heart desires.” So she bought her little round trip ticket to Paris. The second night she was there she went out on a blind date and met the man.

He was already married five times, no offspring and divorced each He was fabulously wealthy and an awfully nice chap, many years her senior. She was a girl, beautiful girl, a model out there in her early 30’s and he was a man on in years. Not by his standards as he always felt himself 20 – and still does at 77. “But they were blessed with a little boy, little Larry and 2 years later blessed with a second and they named him after me, Neville.

Well, Larry was killed two weeks ago last Saturday in London. He was in college, first year. They got a cable saying that he had had a fatal car accident. Now he has all the money in the world. He plotted everything for Larry. Now this is a lesson for Joseph and Louise. They’ll learn it. That money isn’t everything. They tried to cushion him against everything in this world by setting up trust funds, this, that and the other.

Now it is a lesson for Joseph to learn at the age of 77 for they can’t bring him back. But Larry is alive. Larry is not dead. Larry is restored to life. He is not mangled as he was in this sudden death in the auto accident. Not a thing is missing. He is a restored youth, a beautiful youth just as he was when he was here at the age of 17. He was an unusually handsome fellow, a little taller than I am and evidence of growing even taller than that. He was a perfect darling. All right.

So he is gone. He doesn’t need their cushion of dollars and cents. But they needed a lesson of the loss. And so they cry out, as you have it in scripture, “Oh Absalom, my son, my son. Would that I had died instead of thee.” So he had to learn a lesson in the death of his son.

So we will find in the end that mercy, infinite mercy did it all. Doesn’t seem right, but I tell you God is infinitely merciful and we are the gods. You wouldn’t think it when you see man’s inhumanity to man. But he still is, infinitely merciful. But I tell you, you are the gods spoken of in the 82nd Psalm, which scholars claim is the most difficult Psalm of the 150, and the idea, said this great scholar Thomas Cheyne, who was the editor in charge of the Encyclopaedia Biblica.

He took these ancient manuscripts and he was the editor in charge – the volume is that thick – today it is out in four volumes, each still that big – and is considered the most scholarly of high biblical criticism. He said that the ideas in this psalm might have been for anyone, but their meaning has long been lost to us.

We have no understanding really because he can’t conceive that God and gods – and that God is saying to the gods that “you are sons of the most high, nevertheless you will die like men and fall as one man, oh princes.” Then comes the fall – one man containing all men, then the return to that divine bliss, but beyond the wildest dream of anything known here.

For you can’t conceive of what you have shut out in coming here. We are all suffering from total amnesia. Then when you return, you return to the glory that was yours before the world was. But you bring back the glory of the experience of conquering death. For the Gods can’t die, so they had to actually enter into a state where they die like men and still they can’t die; therefore they have overcome death.

Then the creative power of God is increased by reason of all of us going back bringing out talent that we have exercised and increased. Came down with our talent, we go back with our talent multiplied and the power of God is enhanced that much. And all are only one God. There is only one God, “Hear, oh Israel, the Lord, our God, the Lord is One.” There is no greater confession of faith than that. The minute you start other gods – put any man up as some important person, you are making another God. And don’t – “Hear, oh Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One”. There is no other. That is our greatest confession – the Shemmah.

Now the time is up – until Friday. Thank you! Now let us go into silence.

We tell you here that we believe you can be what you want to be in this world and that it is my purpose to tell you. If I have moments in my life I regret it, not in the sense of a change of mind as in the word repent, still I must tell you. I may have moments of regret that you have misused this power for any purpose, yet it is better that you misuse it, rather than not to use it.

How many times one feels concerned at the misuse of this principle. Yet it is better to misuse it than to bury it, for even by the misuse we learn, though painfully. In the story of the talents it was only the one who did not use it that was condemned.

We are living in a world that is like a play and some seem from birth to be cast in a difficult role, and yet you tell him that God is Infinite Love. But he is the playwright and the casting director, for this is a play. As Shakespeare says, “All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players. We have our exits and our entrances and one man in his time plays many parts.”

But that “time” is not three-score and ten; it is the time it takes to awaken that man, the perfect actor, or God. So I play every part, but playing every part does not mean I play every man or woman in the world. There are billions of actors but only so many parts, and every part you and I must play. The central figure, the star, is Christ, and the whole play is about Christ from Genesis to Revelation, but there are many parts that reveal it. There are twelve main characters (the 12 disciples), and the four-and-twenty elders, and the High Priest Caiaphas and his political opponent, Pilate. These are in every age and every time.

The purpose of the play is to awaken in us the actor, God. These characters of the Bible are not people: they never walked the earth as people. We play all the characters, but they do not live any more than Hamlet lived. When Olivier plays Hamlet, Hamlet can do nothing but what Olivier does, and then Olivier can if he wishes play another character altogether. The characters are the eternal states of the Soul, but we must learn to distinguish the man from the characters he is playing. The characters are real in eternity and we assume the character and play it on this sphere. To say that everything in this world is a play does disturb, but I want you to believe it.

Tonight I want to discuss the most difficult of all the characters, and if asked you would refuse to play that role, but it is the most important, for until it is played, Christ cannot awaken within you. It is the character of Judas. People say he is the betrayer, but to be able to betray I must first hold the secret. So I betray you into the hands of your enemies.

I reveal you, for that is what “betray” means. Only he who knows God could reveal God. Only Judas did not leave Jesus in the garden. The others left him, but Judas remained to reveal Him, or betray Him, and then Judas commits suicide.

But we are told, “No man takes away my life, but I lay it down myself.” So, who is Judas? Until that character is played, Christ is not awakened in the mind of man. He reveals God. Then he repented when he found that those to whom he revealed the Lord spat at him and reviled him and condemned him.

It does not mean upon a man; it is a symbol. But I say the time will come when you will not repent, even though you will be concerned as to the consequences of your act. The word is only translated six times in this form. Paul wrote a bitter letter to the Corinthians and he said, “I do not repent or change my attitude toward you.” And another time when Jesus is made a member of the order of Melchizedek he says, “I do not repent.” But in this case when Judas reveals the Lord to the world he repents, for he sees what they did with the knowledge.

Not something done to a man, for Christ is invisible, for he is the Lord and the Lord is spirit and spirit is without form. You tell the world who He is, as man’s Invisible Reality, and then when you see that they spit in his face – figuratively – then you are concerned for the consequences of your betrayal of the identity of God.

Judas is not a man any more than Christ is a man. Christ is the Invisible Reality, and all the others are states, and we move into states. But when you are cast in the role of Judas you are at the end of the play and the play is over. You betray the identity of the Creative Power of the universe and then you “commit suicide,” you hang yourself upon a tree. As he betrays Him he becomes the very being that he betrays.

Now Judas comes from the same form as the word Judah. It means the hand. It is the first symbol in the name of God, or the Hebrew symbol “Yod,” the hand of worship, the hand of the Creator. Then the second name of Judas is Iscariot. “Is: means “Man”; “Cariot” means “to lay timber,” or the carpenter. So Judas betrays the Lord, for no one knew him, but Judas told them, “when I kiss him you will know him.” And yet Jesus had said to them, “I have been with you three years and you do not know me?” The others ran when he was arrested, but the one who knew him kissed him and said, “Do not let him go,” and that is your Imagination, for that is Christ. There is no other. Christ in Man is man’s own wonderful human Imagination, and with Christ all things are possible.

So you can take this revelation and go out and be anything you want to be. If using this power I go out and take advantage of another, it means my misuse of what I have just heard. But the one who tells you and then sees what you do with it often repents. So the story is told you that they spat on him – not a man, for who can spit on Imagination – not knowing there is no other: we are all one. This is spitting on Christ or putting stripes upon him. Not on his body for He is invisible, for my Father is spirit and spirit is invisible.

So the most difficult to play is that of Judas, or the betrayer, and if the playwright were
casting the play no one would volunteer to play it. But one has to go out and “betray” God by telling his identity, and to the degree that you can do it you will prove it by the behavior of those to whom you tell it. For all the characters of the Bible are true as states and they live forever. God sends his sons through these characters as actors that at the end of time He may awaken these actors as Himself.

You are infinitely greater than any character in the Bible, for they are states, but there is another one that is not a state and that is Christ, and he is being awakened in you. Christ is God and He is awakening in every being in the world. He has prepared a play to awaken every child born of woman, and to create like his Father he has to go through every experience, and they are all written in the Bible.

So there are the twelve, and the four-and-twenty, and there is always the political power, and the religious power, and the wise men, called the Sadducees, and those who conform to that which they think will make them important in the eyes of men – the Pharisees. Then there are those who have mechanical talents; you can take from the inspired works of a Shakespeare or a Blake and write many books, but they could not write one thought that is original, and they are the Scribes. Then there is “the multitude,” who hail the hero today and then stone him the next.

So the eleven could not commit suicide or, in other words, let go of everything they had ever heard regarding causation. That is everything that you previously thought you must let go of and die to and live only to the Christ. And so you read the statement of Paul that he comes to teach only one thing, and he got it from revelation. It is true: it comes by a vision, but then the Sadducees will laugh at you.

We have this now in our midst as they talk about evolution, and the world has accepted it, yet I am told that God created all things and called them good, and wondrous. All were distinct acts of creation. I have nothing to do with anything less than man, but everything less than man only bears witness to what I Am. I did not evolve through all the animals. That is true only as related to human affairs. I see it move from the canoe to the ocean liner; from the plow to the tractor, from the cave to the palace.

Evolution is only in the affairs of men. The bird builds its nest as it first built it and it is fixed and perfect, but the things of form evolve. But this is not man – this body – this is only the mask (Persona). I am all Imagination and I wear this mask until I go through all the parts, and then I am He, for the purpose of the play is to awaken us, “for God alone acts in all existing beings and men.” The purpose of the play is to make us actors, even bad ones. If we are bad ones the one who reveals the secret repents, yet he would not change it.

We are told that when Judas came and kissed Jesus that Jesus said to him, “Friend, why are you here?” The translators could not bring themselves to believe the actual translation so they have put it in the footnote; “What you have to do, do it.” The actual translation is, “What you must do, do it quickly.” You have to do it. You have to tell the world who God is and that He is Imagination, but the translator used the sentence, “Why are you here?”

Everyone is an actor awakening, so I say to everyone, you are playing all the parts, and I hope you will start to play the part of Judas. You did not come to play just one part. Everyone plays many parts. You can, if you will, slip into this part of Judas. You could play Caiaphas or Pilate forever, and think that causation is external, or is in the hands of the political or the religious powers, or the great universities.

Until it comes (Ed. Note: the understanding of true causation), you do not know it, but I know who I am and who you are. Every being is God in different states, all playing these wonderful parts, but when he awakens he is God, and no matter what he has ever done he is forgiven. When he awakes he is white as snow, no matter how scarlet things were.

I ask you to take this revelation of God, who is your own wonderful human Imagination. That is what Judas tells you, and I am playing his part. He is not a man but a state into which I have entered deliberately and consciously, for no one can betray God unless he knows the secret.

We are told in Corinthians, “Who knows the thoughts of a man but the spirit of man who dwells in him.” Who could reveal or betray God, but he who knows His secret? But if you know it and you test and prove it, then you are commissioned to go out and betray God. You go out and betray the secret of creation. “Then he went and hanged himself to a tree.” This body is a tree. He comes to do it and he had to do it, but then he stands aghast at the use to which they put this secret about which he came to tell.

Then the next stage is to awaken completely as Christ. “We do not yet know what we shall be like, but when we see him we will know him, for we will be like him.” You will be like the very Being you were sent to betray. Everyone here will play every character in eternity. I do not mean people. They will go through all the characters, for the characters are eternal states.

Distinguish man, who is all Imagination, from his present state. You can forgive him anything knowing he is playing a part written for him by God. We are all players in God’s play. You can go back and see the parts you have been playing from the cradle until now. If you were given a vision you would now, this moment, see in human form the state that I am playing. You would see it and yet it is not a man but only a state. I have seen people in argument and over them you see figures in contention. They are only playing states and as they forgive and shake hands these would vanish.

A gentleman sat here the other night and he wrote to me; “As you began to speak I saw over your shoulder a patriarch: who wore the black hat and robes of a priest. I do not know who he was but I feel he is a great inspiration to you.” This is true, for I entered a certain state (I was speaking about the foundation stone) and that state was personified as a man. I was telling you that the foundation stone of everything is Imagining and not to leave that and go in search of another foundation. And here this gentleman saw a being who was to him a patriarch expressing what I was talking about. I know it is true, for I am never alone. But you are infinitely greater than the state, for you are a living Center of Imagining. You can move through all the states; you are not the state.

They build churches to Peter, or to John, etc. They are being built only to states, and the states are eternally dead until the Son of God gives them life. When you enter the state of contention it is then alive, but if you are not in the state of contention it is dead. They do not build churches to Judas. I lived on a little island and they divided it into eleven parishes, named for the disciples, but there is no Judas.

My forefathers did not know he was the most important, for only he could discover God and betray him. They call one who betrays a friend a Judas. But in Matthew 26, Jesus calls him, “Friend” and then he said, “What you have to do, do quickly.” He did not call the others friend. He called Peter, “Satan”, but to Judas he said, “Betray me!”

And then often those to whom the secret is revealed begin to use it wrongly. They discover Imagination creates Reality, and disliking someone they will imagine something bad and by their very intensity, bring it to pass. You can use this in a horrible way, so we are told he repented or was deeply concerned as to the consequences of his act.

You can be what you want to be in this world, and those who recoil from this Truth are its enemies and do not know it. Millions will recoil from it, but that is all right for they have not yet reached the point where they can be cast in the role where they will take it and go out and betray God.

You can betray God only by revealing Him. You will not know Him by anything the scribes or the Pharisees will tell you, but only by inner revelation. And when you are fully persuaded you will go and tell it. Then whenever the day comes to close this eye and take off this mask, you will awake among the giants of those who are awakened. But none will fail, for everyone in eternity will finally awaken. So if I have to play a part over and over until I am buried in the part, I will be buried until I learn I am the actor and not the part I am playing.

Isaiah 40:6-8 – it seems so strange that the book that forms the foundation of the play should make this statement: “All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. The grass withers, the flower fades but the word of our God will stand forever.” And the “Word” is the play from Genesis to Revelation. If you took all the Bibles and burned them, the play remains in spite of the written record.

We hear so much about goodness; few can define it since no two ages have the same concept. I do not teach you to be “good”, but to be creative in expressing this great talent. Do not bury it even if, in using it, you make mistakes. Prove it in your own life and then go out and tell others. No priesthood could send you or have the power to send you out. No holy water will send you out.

You are sent by God and God is spirit. So if you feel moved to do it do not hesitate, and if you make mistakes and I hear of them I may feel for a moment that I wish you had not, but I will not really regret that I told you of the identity of God. Your human Imagination is God and is one with that which sustains the Universe. When you see it you go out and betray, or reveal it. Judas means “hand” and that becomes the first letter of the name of the creator. (Yod He Vau He)

We are told that Judas betrayed his Lord for thirty pieces of silver and then he was said to have turned it back to the priest. They bought the potter’s field. It means “maker”. It appears 62 times as “maker”: It is used only a few times as “potter”. It means “maker” in the sense of one that is a craftsman, as a goldsmith or a silversmith.

It means that the individual is a maker. So he took the fullness of the price of God – for 30 means “fullness”. He went through every furnace, for no one playing Judas could skip one. So he paid the price. And then he threw it to the potter. He should have thrown it to the silversmith. But the same word translated as silversmith is also translated potter.

I pay the full price to discover that my Imagination is God and then I die to all I formerly believed and then tell it to the populace, and then have them deny it and “spit” on him, etc. It has nothing to do with anything taking place on earth. Go out, think about it and determine to make yourself the person you want to be. Then betray this secret and tell others what you have discovered.

Imagine the loveliest things in this world for yourself or for another. So let us go now into the silence and when you break it, knowing that Imagining is God, let no one persuade you there is any other cause for phenomena. Go through these doors knowing it is so and then you will not be impatient, but you will let it be so, for God creates Reality. The Father walks through the world with me and I do not know it. I do not know that the Imaginal activity is the cause of what appears in my world.

Now let us go into the silence.

THE FIRST PRINCIPLE  – Neville Goddard

Do not accept any statement from scripture, the church, or an individual (including the speaker) as true until you have found God or a living truth in what is being said. What I tell you I know from experience, but I ask you not to accept my words without questioning them within yourself. It is silly to accept something simply because the church said it, or you read it in the Bible, or heard it from Neville. You must pursue the thought ceaselessly by questioning yourself.

Why do I stress this? Because among the spirit world there are many Babel’s where no two speak with the same tongue. One may tell you to give up meat, while another will tell you something entirely different. This we are told in the 11th chapter of the Book of Genesis. I am not speaking of multiple tongues as the many languages we have today. We can overcome those with an interpreter; but if someone tells you: “This is the way,” and another says: “No. This is the way,” and they don’t agree – you are in Babel, a city of confusion in the pathway of the spirit.

So tonight I want to talk to you about the first principle, which you can always fall back on when in doubt. This first principle is: “Be still and know that I am God.” No matter what happens turn within and be still. Know that your awareness is God and that all things are possible to you. Test yourself and you will prove this statement in the testing; then you will be free from your former limitations of belief. No matter what is happening on the outside turn to the first principle. Start by being still, then claiming: “I am God.” Ask yourself: “Is this true?” You will never know the truth until you test it.
Let us now look at some of the “I am” statements of scripture. I am the resurrection. I am the life. I am the way. I am the truth. Are these statements really true? Yes, I have stilled myself and know that every statement is true, from experience. Being human I wanted things in the world of Caesar, as undoubtedly you do, too.

I wanted a trip I could not afford, yet I traveled over 5,000 miles by being still and saying to myself: “My awareness is God and all things are possible to him. therefore what I am imagining will come to pass.” Then I began to imagine I was on a ship sailing towards Barbados. I remained faithful to that act, when suddenly – after twelve years – I received a letter from the family saying they would take care of all of my expenses if I would come home for Christmas. So I proved it. Then I tried it again and again, and the more I tried it the more I realized that the statement in the 46th Psalm was true: that God really is my own wonderful consciousness, for I learned to be still and know that I am God.  I couldn’t prove the other fantastic “I am” claims by taking the same action. I had

to wait, and then one day I proved that I am the life. That night I moved in spirit into an environment where I intuitively knew that, although what I was seeing seemed to be independent of my perception, if I arrested that feeling within me everything would stand still. I did it and discovered that not only the animate, but the so-called inanimate objects stood still. The falling leaves stopped in mid-flight. The blades of grass ceased to move. The bird in flight, the diners as well as the waitress – all were frozen as I stopped the feeling within me. Then I knew the truth of the statement: “I am the life.”

After proving to myself that I am the life of a state, I questioned the statement: “I am the resurrection.” Then came the day when I felt myself resurrect within the grave of my own skull. I proved that I am the Father, when my son came in the Spirit and called me “Father.” I discovered that I am the one who was sacrificed, for – knowing I am the Father – my spiritual body was split from top to bottom. Then I discovered that I was the one upon whom the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form as a dove.

These things I now know to be true from experience, therefore I speak with authority. But I say to everyone: whether you hear it from me, a church, or the Bible – question yourself ceaselessly until you have found the living truth in that which was said. Accept the words but then go back to first principle and ask these eternal questions to the only one who can answer them: your own wonderful I AMness.

Relax. Be still and question yourself, saying: “Are you really God?” Address yourself as though you were two. “If you are God and can do all things, prove it to me by giving me my desire so I can feel its presence now.” See if he will prove himself in performance and when he does, do it again. Keep on asking and when he proves himself here on this level, then let these things which can’t be put to the test come through, for they will.

Now, the Bible tells us that Christ is in us and that we are in Christ. On the surface it seems to mean the same thing, but there is all the difference in the world. Christ in us is our hope of glory. That’s a universal assumption, for Christ has assumed the body of every child born of woman. But when you are in Christ you are a new creature.

Christ in you does not make you new. Christ in you is your life, for in him is life and his life is your consciousness of faith. But when you are in Christ you are called and incorporated into the body of the Risen Lord. Because Christ is in you, you are a son of God; but when you are elected – called into the presence of the Risen Lord and incorporated into his body – you are in Christ. There is all the difference in the world, for from then on scripture begins to fulfill itself within you.

If you question everything you hear from any pulpit, the speaker, or the Bible, you will find God or the living truth in what you have heard or read. I hope that you trust me, but even though you do, question everything I tell you. Don’t question me or some priest or rabbi, but turn to the first principle. Be still and say to yourself: “I am God. I heard this statement tonight – is it true?”

I tell you: although it is difficult to believe, we are living in a fabulous world of shadows. This past Thursday morning as I was returning to the surface, I saw the finish of the Triple Crown race at Belmont in detail. Now this was Thursday and the race was not to be run until Saturday, but I saw the finish so clearly that if I had a million dollars I would not have hesitated to bet it all on the one I knew to be the winner. In fact I knew the race could not be reversed. It was fixed and finished. Then I asked myself: “What is this world? Is it not a school of educated darkness?”

Man thinks that in some strange way he is going to improve this world, but it is a schoolroom and will remain just that. The kingdom of heaven is not interested in improving this world; it is only interested in taking people out of this world by drawing them into itself – which is an entirely different world. But we can change the events in this schoolroom through the act of revision.

I had no desire to revise that race. I could have, and that which was completely finished, in detail, would have been changed. In scripture the word is “repentance,” which means “a radical change in thinking.” Tomorrow morning as you come to the surface mind, observe and record what you are seeing, for you are observing that which will take place tomorrow or next week in this world of shadows. And if you don’t like what you see, change it. Don’t do as you normally do, by jumping out of bed, washing your face, and once again find yourself locked in this world of shadows; take a moment and observe your future.

I urge you to question everything that I tell you, everything you read in the Bible, and everything you hear from some pulpit, ceaselessly. Keep on questioning and questioning until you find God or the living truth in what is being said. I am telling you what I know from experience. It is true. One day you will discover that you are the life of the world, that everything you think of as permanent and independent of your perception is within you. You will know that the world reflects your thoughts.

It is a shadow and you are its life. You will realize that its activity is not out there, but in you; and you will stop it and start it again, all within yourself. So when you read: “In him was life, and his life was the light of men,” you will know its truth. God is in you, yet you know him not. But when he begins to stir in you, as you, you will say: “I am the way, the truth and the life, and besides me there is no other.”

Then comes that moment in time when you know the truth of the statement recorded in the 11th chapter of John as: “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”

Knowing you are the life, you will resurrect from the dead to die no more. You will still not know you are the one the angels spoke of, when they told the shepherds they would find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, until you hold that sign in your arms. God’s son, David, will call you Father, and your spiritual body will be split in two from top to bottom. Then you will know you are the sacrificed one. And finally, you will discover you are the one upon whom the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form as a dove; then you, too, will have found the truth.

I know scripture is true, because I questioned it. I started questioning the law because I was interested in things. Having no money, I wanted a trip and I got it. Then I began to tell others, as I wanted to see them take the same principle and test it. As they proved it they told others. I invite you to prove the truth on this level, and have faith that the truth is equally true on the higher level of your being. Continue to test the law for things in this world and accept God’s promises on faith, based upon what you have proved by the law.

Do you know what you want? I will tell you a simple way to get it. Simply catch the feeling that you have it and sustain that feeling. Persist in acknowledging the joy of fulfillment. In your imagination tell your friends your good news. Hear their congratulations, then allow him who heard your friends and felt your joy of fulfillment, bring it into your world, for he who can do all these things is within you as your own wonderful I AMness, your Imagination, your consciousness. That is God.

Test God, for he will not fail you. Then, when he proves himself in performance, tell a friend, and continue telling others as you exercise this law. And walk knowing all the other I am statements are yours. Prove this in the world of shadows and you will prove the other in the world of reality.

Your I AMness is the true eternal reality. Living in a world of shadows, as you declare your I AMness you are declaring eternal truth. When you say, “I am the resurrection,” that is eternal truth. “I am the life” is eternal truth, as well as “I am the way.” All of these bold certainties preceded with the “I am” are eternal truths.

So, do not listen to anyone who screams at you from their tower of Babel and tells you of another way, for there is no other way. You don’t have to give up meat or only eat fish on Friday in order to enter the way, for the way to the cause of all life is within you. Believe in your I AMness for there is no other God.

In First Timothy, we are told that it is God’s desire that every man be saved. If it is God’s desire and God is in every man, then God is saving himself. This I know to be true, for I have proved to myself that I am God. I know I am the life, the resurrection, and God the Father; yet I do not differ in any way from any other. I have shared my experiences with you in the hope that you will test my words and prove them in the testing.

Ceaselessly question yourself. Don’t go to a priest and ask him if I am telling the truth, for he is Babel, screaming his belief, as is the rabbi. Do not go to another; turn within and apply the first principle by being still and claiming: “I am God.”
The 46th Psalm is truly a beautiful psalm. I have read where certain people in their little jokes, claim Shakespeare wrote it, incorporating himself into the chapter by making the 26th word “shake” and the 46th word from the end “spear.” Others claim it was Rufus’ song. Living in the 16th century, Rufus did claim that this psalm inspired his majestic hymn, which moves everyone who hears it, but he certainly did not lay claim to the psalm itself. It is “A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.” Who knows who the Sons of Korah are; I do not know. The word “Korah” means “a shaved head.” But you and I know it is a fantastic psalm; and in the 10th verse it is said: “Be still and know that I am God.”

Tonight when you go to bed just say: “I am.” Add any condition you want to that I am and believe it. Speak to your imagination as though you are speaking to the God who created the universe and sustains it, for you are. When you imagine something ask yourself who is imagining it, and you will say: “I am.” That’s God’s name forever and ever.

Imagine and fall asleep imagining. Believe that all things are possible to your own wonderful human I AMness. Test yourself! You don’t need to get down on your knees and pray to anyone on the outside. There is no need to cross yourself before any icon, for the Lord is your human imagination, your consciousness, your own wonderful I AMness.

Nothing can ever cease to be, for God – he who is in you as your consciousness – created it in love. At the present time Christ is in you, making you a son of God. But one day scripture will unfold within you and you will be in Christ, knowing yourself to be God the Father.

Do not take anything on face value. I have proved that the Bible is true, but you prove it to yourself. Ask yourself what is meant by the statement: I am the resurrection. I am the life. I am the truth. I am the way. Question yourself and you will discover the answers unfolding within you.

In the 25th chapter of Matthew, the story is told of ten virgins. Five, having no oil, are told there is none to spare, so they must go get their own. Ask yourself why they did not give to those who had nothing and it will be revealed to you that, prior to the coming of the bridegroom (who is the Lord), you thought there was a limit to that which you could give; but when you have union with the true bridegroom – who is all love – you know no limits, for everything is possible to you.

In his Book, Mark speaks of the adulteress generation. Do you know what an adulteress is? One who turns away from the truth, for when you turn from the truth you turn from the Lord. Anyone who has heard the truth and still looks for an outside cause, rather than to his inner thoughts, has committed adultery. He has turned from his spouse, whose name is “I am.” It’s just as simple as that.

If you watched the race last night, you would have heard all these wise men tell of what should have happened, yet the race was perfect. Not one person on that field could have done anything other than what he did. I could have told them, but who would listen to one who can’t even ride a horse, let alone train one. Having seen the race prior to its running, I couldn’t get excited when I watched it on television, for I knew exactly who was going to win. Then I realized that if everyone knew the end there would be no excitement.

We live in a wonderful world, thinking we are going to change things, but nothing is changed on the outside. They can only be changed from within. I had no desire to change the race, so I saw it just as it would have to come out unless someone who knows the law had changed it from within.

I ask you to apply the law and change the seemingly inevitable ends – from within. I am telling you the truth based upon my own experiences. Your I AMness is God, he who is the resurrection in you. He is the life of your physical body, the life of the bird in the air and the leaf on the tree. One day you will feel a vibration within you and know that if you arrest it everything you perceive will die, yet not vanish. It will not decay, but will remain frozen in time and space forever, for it has no life. You – life itself – animate it. Then you will release that vibration and everything will become animated once more.
In the 4th chapter of the Book of Luke, we read the statement made in the 61st chapter of Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me.” This statement I know to be true, yet I ask you not to accept my experiences, but to question them by questioning the one being who can give you all the answers. He will, when he feels himself in you. Then he will reveal himself to you in the first person singular in a present tense experience.

Everyone is going to have these experiences, but when I do not know. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have so many days, months, years, or lifetimes to come. Challenge it now! I have experienced scripture. Take my words and ask yourself to prove them to you now. Then let him unfold within you, and when he does, this world will lose its value to you. You will wonder what the fighting is all about. Why should anyone fight over shadows? Don’t criticize anyone. If those who have a billion want two – so that they can be the richest dummy in the grave – pray for them by asking the only being who can grant your prayer, and that being is your own wonderful human imagination.

Don’t struggle doing it. Ask yourself who is hearing the good news you just heard and you will answer: “I am.” That’s God. That’s the being who heard the request. Now grant it and let it happen. God heard it when you heard it because God is your own wonderful I Amness, and remember: all that you ask in your Father’s name he will grant you and your Father’s name is I AM.

Now let us go into the silence.

The Spirit Of God

We are told: “With God, all things are possible.” I think anyone who believes in God would say “yes” to that. But then we are told that: “God is Spirit, and the Spirit of God dwells in us.” I think any man who believes that should make every effort to find out who God really is who “dwells in us.” He is Spirit, and “the Spirit of God dwells in us.” This God creates all things. “By Him all things were made, and without Him was not anything made that was made.”

So everything in the world, regardless of what it is, — for we are told: “I form the light, and I create darkness; I make the weal, and I create the woe. I am the Lord who do all these things.” Well surely, we should make every effort to find out who He is.

I firmly believe, from my own experiences, that this God of whom the Bible speaks is our own wonderful human imagination; that God and the human imagination are one; that all natural effects in the world, though they are created by the Spirit of God, are caused by Spirit. So, “every natural effect has a spiritual cause, and not a natural. A natural cause only seems; it is a delusion of our” — fading, I would say, “memory.” (Blake, from “Milton”) For here in this world I can’t quite remember when I imagined that which is now taking place in my world. I do not recall it. I can’t quite remember when I set it in notion.

But if this is Law, — and a Law that no man can break, — at some time, somewhere, I imagined what I am now encountering; that my present moment is not really receding into the past; it is advancing into the future to confront me, but I forgot it. And I now think it has a natural or physical cause, and it does not have a natural cause.

“Every natural effect has a spiritual cause,” or the Bible is completely wrong. For we are told: “By Him all things were made,” — without exception; “and without Him was not anything made that was made.” And: “He is Spirit,” and “the Spirit of God dwells in me.” Well, if He dwells in me, I have identified Him with my imagination. Only on this level, I do not remember having imagined it; but along the way, I must have if this is Principle.

Now let me share with you some of my experiences. We are in this room tonight, and the room — at this moment — is more real to us than anything in the world. It has a cubic reality, because we are in it. Think of your home; you know your home far better than you know this room, but your home — at this moment — is not as real as this room. This room now occupies reality to you, and everything else is shadowy as you think of it. Why is this real? Because you have entered it. You are in it. You occupy it.

This I know from experience. Sitting in a chair, suddenly I am seeing what reason tells me I should not see. I am seeing what seems to be the interior of a home. Or lying on my bed, I see the interior, — or it seems to be, — of a great hotel, an unoccupied suite ready for occupancy but not occupied. It was just as vivid as any painting of a great artist. An artist would give us the impression of a three-dimensional picture. We know, for reason tells us, that it is on a flat surface; it is simply depicting three dimensions, but it is all on a flat surface.Well, while seated in the chair or lying on my bed, my consciousness follows vision, and I entered that room. I actually occupied it. I came back to where I was seated, on one occasion, –to where I was lying on my bed on another; and then I went back, and again it took on a cubic reality.

I came back knowing exactly what I am doing, and knowing this whole thing makes no sense whatsoever to the rational mind, but I cannot deny what I am experiencing. Here I have the evidence, — no one to share it with, but I have the evidence. I came back, and then went back into the picture. At the moment I entered the picture, it took on cubic reality; and after doing it maybe a dozen times or more, I said to myself, “I am going to explore. This time I am going to go right into it and remain there and explore,” which I did.

So I stepped into the picture; and as it closed around me, from my bed it seemed to be thirty by twenty; but when I stepped into it, determined this time to keep going regardless of consequences, it closed around me, a third of what it seemed to be as I looked at it from the bed. So thirty by twenty became ten by seven. I found it to be a dressing room — a dressing room of a huge, wonderful suite ready for occupancy. No one was in it; I am the only occupant now. I came out by opening up a door. I didn’t go through it by some vapor; I actually opened the door, and to myself I was solidly real, just like the man who is talking to you now.

My hand could open a door, and the door was solid and it was real, and I went through the door. I entered the corridor. It was a nice, wide corridor dimly lit. At the end of the corridor, intersecting it was a brilliantly lit corridor. I walked down to the very end; and when I got to the end, here is this luminous, luminous, wonderful corridor.

I saw two ladies coming down the corridor. I knew exactly what I was doing. I knew how it began; it began by seeing what seemed to me just a vision, like a painting. I knew that I left my bed, my consciousness following vision, and entered the painting; and the painting took on cubic reality. I knew it: so I call that a “dream.” Knowing it began as a dream, I said to myself, “It has still to be a dream. But I am dreaming now awake. I am not dreaming sleeping; I am fully awake, and it is a dream.”

And I said to the ladies as they came by, “Ladies, this is all a dream.” They did exactly what any nice ladies would do — a stranger standing in a corridor and saying to them, “This whole thing is a dream.” They thought they were looking at a mad man. So they got as far removed from me as they could, and got right next to the wall. But the wall was as solidly real as that wall (indicating) They couldn’t go through it any more than I could.

While looking at them, — and they are frightened to death, — they walked quickly by; and then I saw something hanging, like a chandelier. It reminded me of an object that I had seen about six months before in a friend’s home, and he said to me, “You can hardly tell that this thing is suspended. If you look closely, there is an almost invisible thread that connects it to the ceiling.” So I looked, and I did see that very little, thin thread connecting this to the ceiling. Then I was convinced, — “Well, it is a dream. This is a memory image of what I saw in my friend’s home.”

So again, I said to the ladies, “Look, this must be all gossamer.” But as I held it, it was solidly real. It was just as solid as this (indicating). That surprised me. They kept on moving, and they moved rapidly towards the end; and here I am, holding this thing in my hand. I took my hand off and I said to myself, “Now you know it began as a dream, Neville, and this still has to be a dream. All ends run true to origins, and the origin of this experience of yours was a dream. So this must be a dream.” But it is not a dream. I am just as awake as I am now, talking to you, as I was talking to those ladies.

When they got to the end, they looked back at this mad person. In their eyes, I was mad, and they simply disappeared by stepping down a few steps into what undoubtedly was the great reception room, the foyer of a huge, big hotel.

Then I said to myself, “You know, — how are you going to get back? How are you going to get back? There is no road leading beck to that bed on which you left a body. You have unfinished business. You have a wife and an uneducated daughter who has the ambition to go to college, and she’s now only in high school; and you have left inadequate funds to take care of your obligations to your wife and daughter. You’ve got to get back.”

How to get back? I couldn’t go through that door that led from the suite of rooms into the corridor and find any exit from there back to where I lived in Beverly Hills. What on earth am I going to do? I knew — reason told me that if I don’t get back within a very short time, they will find that body on the bed and they will have to examine it, and they will declare it a heart attack or something; but they have got to find a physical cause for it. And here, I am looking at something entirely different. It will “die” all right if I don’t get back. I must get back. Then I remembered a similar experience that happened years before when feeling brought me back.

Feeling awoke me in a dream. I found myself on a beach. It wasn’t Barbados. It was more like the Pacific Islands. I have not been there, but I had been born in the tropics; so I knew exactly what they must look like. But it was not the West Indies; it was the East Indies. And here, I know I am dreaming. I thought to myself, “1 wonder if I held a physical object and forced myself to wake, if I would wake?” So, I tried it. I held onto a pile driven into the beach there — a solid mass of cement. As I held it, I said, “I am not going to let go; I am going to awake right here.” So I held it; and as I held it, I said, “Come on, awake: You know you are dreaming.” And I felt myself come to, as a person comes to when they are waking in the morning. I awoke and there I am, completely awake, wading in the water, holding onto this object. Then I went towards the beach, and a strange, peculiar animal approached me, and it scared me. I got back through fright, and I awoke in that water through feeling.

Now, I am not afraid of what I am doing. My only concern is to get back and take care of my obligations in life, which is my wife and my daughter. Now, how to get back? I am not afraid. I said, “I can’t frighten myself, because I am not afraid.” But I thought feeling would do it. So I closed my eyes, and I imagined that my head was on a pillow, and that I could feel the pillow; and then after a little while when I opened my eyes, I am still standing in the corridor. I tried it again; and then by the third time, as I tried it, I could feel something under my head. I allowed that to remain; then suddenly I could feel it.

I tried to open my eyes, and I couldn’t this time. Instead of standing as I am now, perpendicular, I feel I am lying horizontally. So I felt, “Well, I must be back now,” but I couldn’t move my body. The body was cataleptic and I am frozen like this. Then in about, — oh, maybe, twenty seconds or so, I could move this little finger. I couldn’t open my eyes. In a little while I could move from the elbow down; and then, with tremendous effort, I could move the arm, and I pushed it out to feel the warm body of my wife. Then I knew I was back, but I hadn’t yet been able to open the eyes.

Then, with a tremendous effort, I could open the lid, and see the familiar objects in the room that I had left behind me. Then I knew what makes everything real in this world: “The Spirit of God dwells in me,” and He is my own wonderful human imagination. I walked into a thing that I could only see lying upon my bed. Entering that state, it took on a cubic reality. God made this world real by entering it. As we are told, He is not only translucent — I would say, in a translucent manner; we are told, He is above all. He is also through all, and He is in all. If He is through all, He is Omnipresent. If He is in all, He is immanent. Then I am told, He dwells in me. He is in me, He is in you, He is in everyone.

Am I now confined to this little place here at the podium? I am not. I proved that that night. I have proved it unnumbered times since. I am not actually confined to where this body is. I dwell in it; and He who dwells in it is the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of God is my imagination.

I have proven to my own satisfaction that my imagination can travel. I don’t have to stand here and think of my home. I can stand here and penetrate my home, leaving the body here as I did on the bed; and penetrating the home, the home becomes a cubic reality, as it will tonight when I take this body home and enter my door. The house is a cubic reality. But must I wait until I get home tonight in this body to give it that? Can I not now, knowing Who God is, — God is Spirit, and He is now encased in this little garment of flesh; but He is Spirit, and I have discovered He is my own wonderful human imagination.

So when man “dies,” he cannot die; only the garment that he “wears” can die. But that Being that he really is, is all imagination. And as He enters, wherever He enters, it takes on cubic reality. That I have proven. The Immortal You cannot die. It did not begin. So when you leave this world, because you are all imagination, — the very moment that you depart, you are in some state; but, you being there, you give it cubic reality. That world is just as real as this world. It’s terrestrial, just as this world is; and no one in this world can “die.” Everything dwells in your own wonderful human imagination.

The purpose, now, is to awaken that Being in you, so He is fully conscious at all times. That is the purpose of life. He who came down and took upon Himself the weaknesses and the limitations of this garment and confined Himself to it, is destined to awaken while He walks this earth. And by “this earth,” I mean this earth to the senses; but it does not end where my senses cease to register it. It doesn’t terminate at the point called “death,” because the Being in it goes on, and He is still in the world. But His entrance into that state gives it a cubic reality just like this room now because we are in it.

Now we come down to a practical use of this Law. Because this is so, your dream now is shadowy. You would like to be other than what you are. I think everyone does in this world. It’s a form of growing and growing; and we grow, and we outgrow. So you would like to be it. But to those who are not in their dream, it’s shadowy — a mere possibility. But to those who enter into the dream, it seems the only substance.

A man who is now poor and embarrassed because of his poverty — he can still dream, and dream of wealth, dream of security; but it’s a shadowy state. It is something that seems to him almost impossible if he is going to use reason. He will say, “How is this thing possible? Because I have no background either intellectually or financially or socially to even hope to achieve that sort of thing.” But if he knows who He really is — the Spirit of God who creates all things dwells in him, and that he can detach that Indwelling Being from the body that he “wears,” and actually enter his dream, — the dream will take on reality. And, if he persists in it, it will objectify itself in this world.

I know that from many problems that I have had. When I was told that I could not do this or I could not do that; having remembered experiences that were all mystical, I applied them to practical things, and they work just as well in the practical state. I entered into my dream. It was a dream.

When I was in the Army, I couldn’t get out; but I wanted to get out, and I wanted to get out honorably. I did not wish to be dishonorably discharged. I wanted to go through this world as a very honest — I would say, clean, wholesome American citizen, and not when asked the question, “Were you ever in the Army?” and then they say, “Were you honorably discharged?” and have to say, “No, I was dishonorably discharged.” I didn’t want that on my record. So, I would not run away from the Army. I wanted out of it, and to get out of it before the end of the war, and to get out of it honorably; so I took the same lesson that I had learned, and I applied it to that.

So while in the Army, I assumed that I am in my home in New York City two thousand miles away. I was in Camp Pope, Louisiana; and I had an apartment in New York City in Washington Square. So going to bed physically at Camp Pope, I went to bed in imagination in my home in New York City, — not there on furlough, not there on some little escape, but there honorably discharged. Then I got off my imaginary bed, walked all through my apartment and saw everything that I would see if I were there. It took on cubic reality.

When I awoke the next morning, I was still in Camp Pope, Louisiana; but that night a strange thing happened to me. It was 4:15 in the morning, and here a sheet came before my eyes, and on this sheet a hand appeared from here down holding a pen, and the pen wrote: “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.” First of all, the voice said that, but the pen scratched out my disapproval, for I applied for a discharge, and my Colonel disapproved it.

He said, “Disallowed,’ and signed it “Colonel Theodore Bilboe, Jr.” That was his name, which is on a record. You can look it up, for he was the one who disallowed my application for discharge. And the hand simply scratched it out, and over that it wrote in: “Approved,” — this hand holding a pen. Then the voice said to me: “That which I have done, I have done. Do nothing.” What did he do? He scratched out the Colonel’s disapproval, and he wrote in, “Approved.” And then I awoke.

Ten days later I was honorably discharged by that same Colonel, and he shook my hand; and as I left that base, he said, “I will see you after the war is over.” I said, “All right, Colonel. Thank you very much.” And that very night I was on a train back to my place in New York City.

That’s how it works. I know from my own personal experience. I am sharing with you what I have experienced, both in the world of Caesar and in the world that is transcendent, something entirely different; so when I speak of being “born from above,” I am not theorizing. I am telling you exactly what happened to me.

When I speak of meeting the Son of God who calls me, “Father,” I am telling you exactly what happened to me. When I tell you I ascended into Heaven like a fiery serpent, as told in Scripture, that’s exactly what happened to me, When the dove descended upon my hand, and then smothered me with love, kissing me all over my face, my neck, my head, I know exactly what happened, because it happened to me. So I am only sharing with you, not theory, not speculation, but only what I know from my own experiences.

So tonight, the most impossible thing in the world — and who is not confronted with it? I am, — an almost impossible thing that I have to actually deny the evidence of my senses and apply my Principle towards that event. I know it could not have happened — nothing happens by natural causes. Nothing in this world happens by a natural cause; it’s all spiritual. And you may say –and the world will say — it happened because you did so-and-so over a period of time and that is the cause of your present physical ailment. It isn’t so at all.

You admire someone intensely, and try to duplicate their every act in this world, and you wish you were just like them; and they depart this world by a similar experience, and never once did the physical things that you are accused of having done that are the cause of what is happening to you. Never for one moment did it ever occur to her, the one she admired, to actually do for one moment what this one, suffering from the identical thing, is now suffering.

And the world will say you are suffering from it because of a physical cause. Had you not done for 40 years what you have done, it could not happen; but yet her own loving mother that she worshiped beyond anyone in this world, and tried so much to emulate, never once in her life smoked a cigarette. She would take an occasional little drink — an occasional a little drink, but very sweet, very weak; and died of the very thing that she now is suffering from. There was no one in this world that she worshiped more than her mother.

That imaginal act in the beginning of time — and the whole thing came forward, and now she is fulfilling completely her ideal to be just like her mother. And the world will tell me that the thing that is happening to her is caused by a physical state. It isn’t so at all. I could duplicate that and multiply it by the unnumbered number, if man only had a memory that could retain the imaglnal acts of the past.

“Every natural effect has a spiritual cause, and not a natural. A natural cause only seems. It is a delusion of the perishing vegetable memory.” (Blake, from “Milton”)

If man could only bear in mind that every simple little imaginal act sends a quiver through Omniscience, right through Omnipotence, and right through Immanence so the whole thing is like a huge, big computer, — your imaginal act instantly is added to the sum total of it all; and instantly the whole. thing is changed, and the world is reflecting every imaginal act in this world of man, and keeping it all perfectly recorded, so that there is no such thing as a natural cause. It is all a spiritual cause.

“All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.”

And where does He dwell? He dwells in us, for He is Spirit, and “the Spirit of God dwells in us.” He dwells in us, and I have, by experiment, discovered what that Spirit is; and I tell you from my own experience, the Spirit of God and the human imagination are one. They are not two.

So when you depart this world, your reality — which is the Spirit of God – is your own wonderful human imagination; and that gives cubic reality to everything in this world if you enter it. Now, the secret is to enter it. Can I enter the state of my wish fulfilled? Those other states were simply experiments. Can I enter the state of the wish fulfilled? I have done it. On several occasions I have. When it seemed essential, I did it. If someone asked of me, I tried my best to do it. And how do I do it? By feeling.

As we are told in the 17th chapter of Acts: “Happy is the man that feels after Him and finds Him,” — he is speaking now of God, — “for in Him we live, and move, and have our being.”
He has just got through speaking to the Athenians. He said, “Oh, men of Athens, I see that you are very religious; but I notice over your temple an inscription to the Unknown God.

Now, the one you worship as unknown, I will reveal to you, for He is not a God afar off. He is near, that you may feel after Him and find Him; for in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” So the God of Whom I speak is never so far off as even to be near, for nearness implies separation. No matter how near he is, that’s not the God. He can’t be near because I AM He. “Be still and know that I AM God.” That is what you are told in the 46th Psalm, the 10th verse.

“Be still,” — why? That you may know “I AM He.” I am God. So the fundamental sin of Scripture is the lack of faith in “I AM He.” As you are told, “You will die in your sins,” — that is, you will die missing the mark, — “unless you believe I AM He.” “And before that the world was, I AM.” “Before Abraham was, I AM.”

So “I AM” can’t he near; that’s the core of my being. I can say, “I am a man,” and that’s something near. “I have a hand”; that is near. “1 am rich”; that is near. “I am poor”; that is near. But before I can say anything, I must first establish the sense of being, and that is I AM. So I must first be, before I can be anything in this world. And so, the lack of faith in that reality is the fundamental sin.

So here I share with you what I have discovered. I have discovered that your own wonderful human imagination is the Spirit of God, and that you can enter any state in this world, and on entrance, it ceases to be a flat surface, depicting reality. It is reality. Why? Because you are the reality who dwells in it. Wherever you are, things are real. If you are not in it, then they are not real. They go to their flat surfaces.

And all things exist in the human imagination. We are called upon to select that state in which we will dwell — the state that we will enter and make real in our world. And I do it by simply feeling. What would the feeling be like, were it true?

How would I feel, were it true? And how would I see the world, were it true? Then I feel myself into that state, and try to give it all the tones of reality, all the sensory vividness that I can. If I can give it sensory vividness and the tones of reality, even though I do not see it, it will work; but sometimes it becomes so vivid and so intense, you do see it. The whole thing opens. Your eye opens, and the whole thing is real; and then you are in an entirely different world — the world of your dreams, for because you entered it, it is real.

But whether the eye opens or not, it will still work, may I tell you? This is the Law spoken of in Scripture; and because no Creator in the world exists but God, — He is the only one, — He has to create good and evil. If there is good and evil, God does it. If there is darkness and light, God did it.

He said, “I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal, and none can deliver out of my hands.” We think a “devil” kills and God makes alive; that the devil wounds and God heals. It’s God who kills and God who wounds, and God who makes alive and God who heals. There is only God. Read it in the 32nd chapter of Deuteronomy.

“I, even I, am He, and there is no God beside me. I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and none can deliver out of my hands.” And the God spoken of in that chapter is seated here in everyone who is seated, for that one in you is the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of God is your own wonderful human imagination. So blame no one in this world for anything that befalls you.

It’s too late to share with you an experience of mine last Sunday morning, but I will on Friday. I asked for it. I woke at 1:30 and thinking of many things concerning my dear wife, I asked for some wonderful experience now, and then fell asleep. And it came in the most glorious manner while I was waking at 6:15. I ran straight to my yellow pad and wrote the whole thing down. It was the most vivid experience in answer. Because I wove myself into an experience, it had to take place. What experience it would be, I left it in the depths of my own Being to decide that. But give me some wonderful experience this night in answer to something; and then came the most glorious experience. And then I wrote the whole thing down. It’s too long to tell tonight. I will tell you on Friday if you are here. Or whether you are here or not, I will tell it on Friday.

Let us go into the Silence.

Now, are there any questions, please?

A Lady: What is the difference in the reality factor between the body on the bed and what they call astral projection? Is there a difference?

Neville: Well I have had out-of-body experiences of what the world would call astral projection, but they are not anything like this. I am convinced that the Thing-That-You-Really-Are is dreaming what you believe yourself to be. One day you will awake; and you and the dreamer of you will be one. I have seen myself out of this body many times, but it is not that of which I speak today.

Any other questions, please?

Another Lady: If you have time, I would like to hear again the story that you told about an experience you had in the past where you tried to get through a wall, and you couldn’t get through it.

Neville: That was really an astral projection. I was living in my hotel room in New York City; and I felt this peculiar force in my head, and I moved out in a circular motion — or rather, a spiral motion, and I found myself on the beach. I didn’t know anyone, but I knew I had just left a body on the bed in New York City. I was more curious about how that thing happened than about the people on the beach. They meant nothing to me. So I inwardly wished to return and duplicate it, but this time not to go to the beach, but to actually come down in the room and observe the body out of which I had just spun. So I had no sooner wished it then I came back into the body; and I am in the body, and I am not in the body.

But now the same motion is taking place, the same intensity; but this time, as I whirled out in a spiral motion, I willed myself to come back into that room and not go elsewhere. I wanted to see exactly how this thing works. So I came into the hotel room, and there was the body on the bed. The face is covered with a cloud. There are breaks in the cloud; and through the breaks in the cloud I can see my face, but only through breaks in the cloud. And here I am looking at this “thing,” — I call it a “thing” because the Reality is looking at it. That which I always believed to be my reality, my self that I shave in the morning, that I bathe in the morning and I feed all through the day, — that’s only an envelope. I am the Being looking at it.

Well I figured: Now, if I am now out, I am Spirit; therefore I could easily go through the wall. And so, I ran towards the wall and ran at it and bumped my head. I came back and was thinking to myself, that’s crazy. Spirit, — there is the thing that should bump its head, not me. I ran again, and I bumped my head again. I came back and this time I said, “Now, there must be some way that it can be done because I am Spirit.”

I imagined myself out of that room, and instantly I was where I imagined myself. The mere fact that I saw the wall as a barrier, it was a harrier to me; and so, trying to go through it, I was going against my own rational mind, and so I bumped it. But when I stood in the room, not going through any wall or any door, I simply imagined myself elsewhere, and I was elsewhere.

So that’s how I learned that lesson, — with a good bump. Now that was an involuntary projection. I have had many voluntary ones. But I am not talking of that. That is behind me now. That is like child’s play. I am speaking of God in us, who is called in Scripture “Jesus Christ,” for the divine body of God is your own wonderful human imagination, which is one with God, who is Jesus Christ. That’s the Lord.

And may I tell you, in the end, although all these bumps and these horrors of the world, in the end, He is Infinite Love. He appears at first as power — destructive violence; but in the end, it was Love behind it all — just sheer Love — nothing but Love in the end. And that is God.

God is Known By Experience – Neville Goddard

(Audio available here:  Neville Goddard Audio – Click Here)

God is known by experience or not at all. I have experienced God. I can no more deny it than I can the humblest evidence of my senses; so I feel qualified to tell you how you are going to experience God. There is only God in the world. When you say, “I am,” that’s God forever and forever.

Tonight you will know why the term “Judeo-Christian” came to be hyphenated. The story as told in the Old Testament is a prophetic blueprint; that which is told in the New is its fulfillment. They are really two parts of one book: the prophecy and its fulfillment.

“God became as we are, that we may be as He is.” [Blake, from “There is No Natural Religion”] Every little child born of woman is aware that it is. Before it is aware of what it is, who it is, where it is, it is aware that it is. That’s fundamental. That is God-in-that-child. It’s the same God in the adult. It is the Dreamer in man. It has to be awakened; and when it awakes, it is the being in whom it awakes, and then he knows Who-He-Is.

We are told in Scripture that: “The hour is coming when all of those who are in the tomb will hear His voice and come forth.” They hear the voice of the Son: it’s called the voice of the child. And the voice of the child, like a tuning fork, sets the tone; and then the Dreamer awakes and knows that he is God. It’s entirely up to the voice of the Son.

“When the time had fully come, God sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts crying, Father.” He is crying “Father,” but we do not hear it – not until “the fullness of time has come.”

We are told in the 44th Psalm: “Rouse Thyself. Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? It is God who sleeps in man. It is God-in-man who does everything that man does – good, bad or indifferent. He actually became as I am – that’s His name – that I may be as He is. And He is Father.

The day is coming; every one will know the experience that I have had, for there is no other experience in Eternity that can convince you that you are God the Father, other than this experience. His Son must call you, and you must respond; and when you actually hear it and then look and see what is calling, and it is your “son” David, then everything returns. Memory returns, and you know exactly Who-You- Are: that you are God the Father, and you “son” is David.

This secret is told us in Scripture in the words “Jesus Christ,” and you take it as one being – one being only, if you that “I and my Father are one;” but if you do not know that that, here you find two beings.

Jesus is I AM. That’s the Lord. “No one can say that Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is called the “remembrancer.”

“I will go, and I will send the Holy Spirit who will bring to your understanding all that you have heard from me.” So he brings back the memory that you lost. But “No one can say that Jesus is Lord exceptby the Holy Spirit.” So when the Spirit comes and memory returns – but you will never know that you really are until you hear the voice of your own “son,” for you are suffering from complete and total amnesia. You do not know that you are God the Father! And you will never know it until you hear the Son’s voice; he is calling and calling, but only when the moment is ripe do you hear it. Just as we have told you, like when the moment is ripe do you hear it. Just as we have told you, like the tuning fork it sets the tone, and it wakes you, and you hear it. When you awake, standing before you is your “son;” and memory returns – the Remembrancer, the Holy Spirit. And then you know exactly Who-You-Are, and you are God the Father!

It is going to happen to every child born of woman. And therefore, every child born of woman is one with the speaker who has had that experience, because it is the identical “son” who is calling him “Father.” And there is only one God, one Father of all, and only Son. So when he calls you “Father,” and you know it because memory returns, and he has called me “Father,” and I know it – then you and I are one.

So “There is only one body, one spirit, one hope, one lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, through all, and in all.” That’s the mystery of Scripture. It hasn’t a thing to do with secular history. It is all salvation history. It has not a thing to do with history as the world teaches it.

You and I are experiencing history – secular history; and my history is known to any one who wants to investigate it. I wouldn’t say that it is anything to write about. I was born in a simple little environment without any educational, social, financial background whatsoever. I am making a struggle, as all people make a struggle in the world: I have to pay rent and to buy food, and then to put the garments on the body. That’s a struggle for every one. They seem to have no time for the Spirit. But the day is coming, all will have this experience, regardless of the struggle; and no one will be greater than the other, because every one is the same God the Father – the Father of the one and only Son, who is David.

So you know why we hyphenate the name “Judeo-Christian.” Judaism is the foundation, and Christianity is its fulfillment. That is the fruit on the tree; that is the flower. Without that tree, it couldn’t bear the fruit; so the whole thing is contained in that Old Testament, but it is adumbrated; it’s a foreshadowing in a not-altogether conclusive or immediately evident way. When it happens, it’s not what the world thought should happen. They are expecting some being to come from without and save them, but He doesn’t come that way. He comes to us as “one unknown,” yet one who in the most ineffable mystery lets the individual to whom He comes experience who He is, and you will never experience who He is until He awakes by the voice of His Son who is calling Him: “Rouse Thyself.

Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Awake! Do not cast us off forever,” – as you read it in the 44th Psalm, the 23rd verse.

So as we are told in the 5th Chapter of John: “And the hour is coming when all those who are in the tomb will hear His voice,” – the Son’s voice – “and come forth.”

The “tomb” is your own wonderful skull. You are not buried in any cemetery in this world. Let them build all the great mausoleums they want. That’s man. It is big business. Let them do it; let them build it. But you are “buried” in your skull! That’s where God is buried! And out of the Golgotha He will rise, and He will rise while you walk the earth. You will sleep this night without knowing you will be awakened by the call of the voice.

The “voice” is a vibration. It is a sound. And so, David will sound the call. It will be in tune with you if the hour is right; and then you will awake to find yourself completely entombed within your own skull. And without any assistance from without, you will push the base of your skull and come out, just like a child being born from the womb of woman, only this is now being “born from above” – not from below. When you come out, all the symbolism of Scripture will surround you. The witnesses will be there. There are three – and the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, which is only the sign of your exit from that heavenly “womb.” You are “born from above!”

And from then, you go to another scene, another scene, over a period of three and a half years, and your journey is then completed. You’ll remain in this world long enough to tell of your experience – to tell of your own experience of God. And until God is experienced, you do not know Him. Let all the preachers do what they want; it’s perfectly all right. They are sound asleep because God-in-them is sound asleep, and they are speculating. They are theorizing, based upon what they believe God ought to do. He should punish this one and punish that one; and they do not know every one punished is God being punished for His dream. He is dreaming the Dream of Life. And many dreams are like nightmares; whether they be waking dreams or the dreams of sleep, they are nightmares. But nevertheless, it’s still God dreaming.

Who is dreaming when he wakes in the morning? We will say, “Well, I had a dream:” and you had a dream. “A horrible dream! I was,” – and then he begins to describe it: but what is he saying? He is calling Him by the name of God. It was God who had the dream. When he wakes, “I am going to do so-and-so.” Who is that saying, “I am going to do so-and-so?” That is God. There is nothing but God in the world. There is no room for any one in the world but God and His only begotten Son. And His Son is David. That’s His Son.

Jesus is the Lord God Jehovah, and “David in the spirit called him ‘my lord.” That’s the son calling him “my lord.” Here is Jesus of Scripture – the awakened God. He’s not asleep. Here is the one who first awoke in the world. But then he calls us “Brothers.” He said, “Go unto my brothers and tell them I am ascending unto my Father,” but he said, “I and my Father are one,”—“unto my God,” and he also said, “My Father is your Father. My God is your God;” and “I and my Father are one;” and my Father is He Whom you call “God.”

Here the mystery begins to unfold. Until you actually experience it, you do not know how wonderful Scripture is. Man must experience Scripture before he can begin to understand how altogether wonderful it is. It’s eternally true. From beginning to end, the whole thing is true, and it is not secular history. It’s divine history.

So I share with you what I know from experience. I am no theorizing. I am not speculating. It happened to me – a simple man, as you are simple; and I did not for one moment suspect this was the mystery until it actually unfolded within me and I experienced it.

When someone who supposedly lived three thousand years ago calls me “Father,” I know exactly that I am his father; there was no uncertainty as to this relationship. I am looking into the face of the most heavenly youth, and he was the one who called me from my profound sleep; and when I awoke, it was God awoke, for he is calling upon the Lord to awake: “Rouse Thyself. Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Awake!” And then you awake as though you had never been awake. It’s a peculiar, strange awaking that takes place in you. And now you see this heavenly, eternal being who is the Son of God; and because he is going to wake you, you will know that he is your son, and he will know that you are God.

So in the end, every one will awake, and everyone will be God! So it takes all of us to make the Lord. It’s a compound unity – the word “Elohim.” It is a plural word.

“In the beginning God,” – that word is “Elohim.” And “God said, Let us make man in our image.” That word is “Elohim” – a compound unity: one made up of others. It takes all of us to make the one God. “Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one,” – not two.

So here, the only one who could ever rouse you and actually bring you from your profound sleep is your “son,” whose name is David.

“I will tell of the decree of the Lord,” said David. “He said unto me, Thou art my son. Today I have begotten thee.”

And so we have confused it with Jesus, and Jesus is the Lord. He is the Lord speaking. He is the Lord who inspired the prophets to write what they did. And finding no one to fulfill it, He Himself came into the world and became man. He became you! His name is I AM. That’s the Lord God Jehovah that we call “Jesus” in Scripture. That’s I AM.

“Do you not realize,” said Paul, “that Jesus Christ is in you?” Don’t you know that He is in you? Are you looking for Him to come from without, when He is within you? Well, He is within. You cannot say, “I am,” and point elsewhere. Whether you are in a frightful dream, you are aware. To be aware is saying, “I am.” And you can’t point on the outside of self when you say, “I am;” and “that is my name forever and forever.” And that is the Lord Jesus in every being in the world.

But his Son plays such an important part – that Son called “David.” You say he is the son of Jesse and “Jesse” means “I AM.” The word “Jesse” means “Jehovah exists.” It is any form of the verb “to be.” In other words, I am. That is the Father of David.

And what I tell you I am telling you from experience. I am not the scholar who simply went through Scripture and combed it to bring forward this theory. It’s not theory with me. I am not qualified to go through the Scriptures, knowing Greek, and knowing Latin, and knowing Aramaic, to do that. It has happened to me. It was all revelation. So let the scholars go on and try to find it. Let them go on. Until it’s revealed to them, they do not know it.

Revealed truth cannot be actually, legally or – I would say – logically proven. It’s all revealed. If it isn’t revealed, well then speculate. And I am not speculating. I am telling you exactly Who-God-Is. And until you experience God, you do not know Him. And I am telling you from my own experience, you will experience God; and then you will know Him. And you’ll know why we hyphenate the words “Judeo-Christian.” It’s one tree. The tree is Judaism; the fruit is Christianity. Christianity is simply the fulfillment of Judaism.

So here, he tells you: “I will not leave you desolate. I will come again.” And then He becomes invisible. The story is told us in the pre-existence “before that the world was.” And here, He becomes invisible, because He takes up His residence in us; and the darkest hour in the world, symbolized in Scripture as the three hours of darkness that descended – no. The darkest hour is when God became invisible. As He became invisible, he took up His residence in us; and man is looking for Him to come from without, and He cannot come from without. He will rise from within, but only at the call of His Son’s voice.

So in the fullness of time, He sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying what? “Father.” And if you hear it, then you respond. Responding is waking. And you begin to awake within yourself, to find yourself entombed within your own skull – completely sealed; but you have an innate wisdom. You know exactly what to do, for He prepared the way before He set forth. You know exactly what to do: you push the base of your skull, and it gives; and then you come out. And the symbolism surrounds you. You know exactly Who-You-Are – but not quite until the Son appears. At first, only the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes; and you are told in Scripture that’s only a sign, like the sign on the top of the White House.

I ask the guard, “Is the President in residence?”

And he looks. If his insignia is flying, he will say, “Yes, he is in residence.” If it’s not flying, the President is not in residence.

If the little child is found wrapped in swaddling clothes, then I ask, “Is God born?”

“Yes, here is His sign.”

“This shall be a sign unto you. You shall find a child wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying on the floor.” When that sign is found, the question is asked, “Is God born?” Yes, here is the sign of His “birth.” But when the child comes – not the little infant – when the Son comes, then you hear his voice. And the voice is the voice of God’s Son, who is Christ.

Christ is the Son of God; and the “Anointed” means Christ and “Christ” means the “Anointed.” And did he not say in the 89th Psalm: “I have anointed you with my holy oil?” Well, who is He speaking to? He is speaking to David. Did He not say in the 89th Psalm: “I have found David, and David has cried unto me, Thou art my Father, my God, and the Rock of my Salvation?” Did he not say in the Second Psalm, “Thou art my son??” Today I have begotten thee?”

All these words were inspired by the One Being whom we call “Jesus, the Lord.” He inspired it through his prophets, and then Himself came down and took upon himself humanity. I am speaking of the Cosmic God – of the Cosmic Son. So He is buried in every child born of woman, but this is so unique He comes to us individually. He calls us, one by one, in season.

So tonight could be your call. It may be tomorrow night. I hope it is not in the distant future. But He will call all; and when you take off this garment, having been called and having seen the Son, you have taken it off for the last time. Until it actually happens to you, “death” is not death. “Death” is nothing more than simply leaving a room and entering another room, simply like the room you left – the same terrestrial world. With all the struggles you left behind you? You’ll find them there. You are restored to life, not as a baby; no reincarnation. You are restored – a young man, a young woman, with not a thing missing. No need of anything to be added because nothing is missing; only you are young – about 20 years of age – to continue your journey in this world, to be confronted with all the problems that are here. Yes, and you marry there, too. You marry, and you grow old, and you “die” there, too. And if it hasn’t yet happened, you are restored again to continue the journey until it happens. But it’s going to happen to every being in the world. Not one can fail, because then God would fail, and that’s impossible. So every one will awaken from the Dream of Life, and it doesn’t end at that moment in time that your senses cease to register that being and we speak of him as “dead.”

He is not dead. He’s in a world just like this – restored to life in a world that is terrestrial, in a young,

wholesome, healthy body, with all the problems that faced Him; because in the Resurrection of which I speak, there is no marriage, no male, no female – a completely transformed being, who is God. But until then, there is still sex – very much so in that world. But I am telling you what I know. I see them – my father, my mother, my brother – so many friends who are gone. I see them. They are not “gone” at all. They are in a world just like this, with all their struggles.

Therefore, I ask you to live so that your mind can store a past worthy of recall, for you taking that with you. Spend all of your time entertaining noble thoughts, for you are taking that with you into the world where you are headed, unless this thing happens before you make your departure from this world. If it does not happen before that, you are taking with you what you have actually entertained in this world. So live so that your mind can store a past worthy of recall, because you are going to actually take it right into your world to resolve it. And that is a part of your struggle.

But the day is coming; everyone is going to have the experience that I have just told you. No one can avoid it. If others have other ideas, let them have it. I wouldn’t raise a finger to change it. They have all these-isms in the world; let them have it – all kinds of concepts of what God ought to have done. What God ought to have done, He has already done! The drama is over. The Resurrection is taking place. It didn’t take place once and forever two thousand years ago. It is taking place at every moment of time, but not every one is articulate. Not every one is sent to tell it after it takes place. So they will go through their little exit from this world, not having told it to any one.

On the other hand, I was not restrained. I had to tell it, like Jeremiah: “If I say I will not mention it, or speak any more in His name, then there is in me, as it were, a burning fire, all shut up in my bones, and I am tired of holding it in, and I cannot.” So I cannot restrain the impulse to talk about it. Others can. They are embarrassed even to bring it up; but I am not. It is part of my way of being, of thinking.

So I tell you, the voice spoken of is a real voice, but like all voices, you are now interpreting the vibration that is coming from my mouth. It is all vibration; and then you actually translate it within yourself, because it is simply impinging upon you. Well, this is the same voice. It’s just like the tuning fork. And then it sets a tone, and the tone rouses you if you are in tune with that tone; and then you are actually hearing Him call you. He is calling you “Father.” And you awake to find standing before you this heavenly youth. And then, at that very moment, you know exactly who he is, and he is David, the sweet Psalmist David; and he is your “son,” and you know he is your son. Memory has returned.

So “God became as we are, that we may be as He is.” [Blake, from “There Is No Natural Religion”] Don’t for one moment forget that. That is the great sacrifice. It was God Who “died.”

“Unless I die, thou canst not live; but if I die, I shall arise again, and thou with me.” [Blake, from “Jerusalem”]

So it is God who is crucified on these garments. And the God-in-you, — His name is “I AM.” And when you hear the voice and you awake, who awakes? I awake. Who is waking? I am waking.

And who is His Son’s name? I am telling you, His Son’s name is David; but because he has been anointed with the holy oil, he is the Christ. “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”

In the Old Testament, the word “Christ” is not used, but the word “Messiah” is. He is the Messiah, for the Messiah simply means the “anointed one.” And the “Messiah” is used only in the Book of John in the New Testament. He does speak of the Christ as the Messiah, and it is not Jesus. Jesus is the Lord.

Yet the Son could say, “I and my Father are one.” So “When you see me, you see the Father.” He is the image of the Father.

You are told, “It does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like Him.”

I am telling you that is exactly what is going to happen. Forget the mask that you are now wearing. Behind that mask is the Ancient of Days, the Eternal One who is the Lord God Jehovah. And David is the image of the Lord God Jehovah. He is the Eternal Youth, and the Lord is the Ancient of Days, without beginning, without end.

So when you dwell tonight on it, treat it seriously. What I have told you this night is true. I haven’t speculated. I haven’t turned to any one for support. I was never taught it. It’s in the Bible, but I never saw it in the Bible until I experienced it. That is why I can tell you, until God is experienced, you do not know God. One must experience God to know Him. He is not deaf; you don’t have to scream to have Him hear you. You need not utter anything. Your simple thought is heard because who is hearing it? “I AM.” That’s God.

The way they have all these prayers – Let us pray. They put on all these microphones and just blast the whole thing out calling upon God to hear them. That’s not God. God is within you. And the God – the only Living God – is your own wonderful human imagination. When you say, “I am,” that is God!

“By Him all things were made, and without Him was not anything made that was made.” In His dream, naturally He makes mistakes. God makes mistakes? There is only one that can make a mistake, and that is God. There is only one that can make anything, and that’s God. For in a nightmare, well can you blame the man if he has the most horrible nightmare? You would console him in the morning if he told you of some horrible dream. You wouldn’t condemn him. Well now, this is a waking dream; but it is still a dream.

So in the end, everything is forgiven. Every being in the world is forgiven, for there is only God who did it all! So the story is the Father and His Son, and there is no other being in the world. And you are the Father, and His Son is your son. And if he can say, “I and my Father are one,” then he can say of you, “I and my Father are one.”

When you look into the face and you see that beauty – you cannot describe the beauty of David. No artist could paint it. He is the image of you. But no one knows it, only the mask that you wear, for He is the image of the Invisible You, and He bears the express image of your Person. But your Person is not the thing that you “wear” as a mask. You are the Immortal Being. You are the Eternal Being.

When you hear it and you really believe it, you will see why this Book of 66 books is really a library. When you have a Bible of both the Old and the New under one cover, you have a library. Very few homes have 66 books in them. If they have a Bible, they have 66 books, and they the greatest library in the world in having the Bible. And one is the Old; the other is the New. One foreshadows, and the other tells you how it is fulfilled. But even though it is fulfilled, it still remains a mystery to those who have not experienced it. So I tell you, He comes to us as One Unknown, yet one who in the most wonderful manner lets you experience Who-He-Is. And when you experience Who-He-Is, it’s your Self. That is God!

What a sacrifice! He literally became as I am, that I may be as He is. And that is true of every child

born of woman.

Now, if you enjoy other things, enjoy them; but you will not in Eternity undo what I have told you. Not in Eternity will you disprove it, may I tell you? All the wisdom of the world cannot disprove what I have told you tonight. You may rise in opposition, and I wouldn’t bat an eye to argue with you, for I know what I have experienced. So let them argue. I will not argue.

They said he was silent. “You will not speak to me.” Why argue the point? “So you were a king. The world says so.”

“It’s the Father’s good pleasure to give me the Kingdom.” Well, if He is going to give me the Kingdom, He is going to give me Himself, for He is the Kingdom. Read it in the 12th Chapter of Luke, the 32nd earn it; it’s unmerited; it’s grace – “to give you the kingdom.” And when He succeeds in giving me the Kingdom, He succeeds in giving me Himself, for He is the Kingdom.

The Kingdom is not a realm, as the world teaches. It is God! – the character that is God, that is perfect; so wherever you are, clothed in that Perfect Character, everything is perfect. Everything is alive. Nothing is dead, and nothing is imperfect. Wherever you are after you have received the gift, you could walk through the Petrified Forest, and it would all suddenly burst into blossom. Walk through the desert, and the desert will bloom. Come into any place where they are imperfectly formed – eyes that are missing out of their sockets will come out of the Nowhere and fill the empty sockets, and they will be perfect. Arms missing? No, not in your presence when you receive the Kingdom. In the presence of You, the Perfect Man, nothing can remain imperfect; but you don’t do it out of compassion. You don’t even do anything. Your very presence does it! So no matter where you are – go down into hell, “hell” is transformed into heaven. Wherever you are is perfect, because are now the King. You have received the Kingdom. I am telling you from my own experience. You walk into a world, and the world is instantly transformed to be in harmony with the Perfection that is springing within you.

So I tell you, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” That is a wonderful way of telling you it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you Himself! That’s how the Evangelist told it in the Book of Luke: “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you Himself.” And your Father is God. And God is Jesus. Jesus is the Lord. There is no other God! But He’s a father, and because He’s a father, He has a son. And I am telling you, in spite of the whole vast world, that Son is David, our sweet Psalmist of Biblical fame. And he will stand before you, and he too will call you “my Lord, my Father, the Rock of my Salvation.”

Now let us go into the silence.

Good, now are there any questions please? Any questions?

A gentleman asks, “Can I have two for the price of one?

Neville- “Yes”.

Question- “In any of Blake’s writings can you tell whether or not he had received the promise?

Neville- “As far as I am concerned meeting Blake, as I have met him in this wonderful risen world, Blake had everything described in scripture. When you meet him he is one of the most majestic creatures that you could meet.

Let me quote speaking of tonights lecture, it’s taken from his book Urizen (The [First] Book of Urizen). I think it’s the seventh chapter and, “The dead heard the voice of the child and began to awake from sleep. All things heard the voice of the child and began to awake to life.”

So when God became Man he transformed death into sleep. God is Infinite Mercy and man is dead. God, in becoming Man, made Man a living soul. He transformed death into sleep and then in the dream he transformed the dream himself into Himself and raises him as Himself.

Oh know, Blake had it. But You’ve got to read like all things, when Blake, read between the lines because as he said to the Reverend (Trustler) that criticized him. The Reverend said to him, “You know You need someone to elucidate Your ideas.”

Blake said is that so, “But you ought to know that What is Grand is necessarily obscure to Weak men. That which can be made Explicit to the Idiot is not worth my care. The wisest of the Ancients considered what is not too Explicit as the fittest for Instruction because it rouses the faculties to act.”

Something that anyone can see, even the idiot, well then it isn’t worth my care. So he told in the way he did, causing you to dig for it. You have to dig for it. But Blake to me is one of the giants, spiritual giants of the world.

I’ve had people say to me, “why didn’t he have money?” Who wants money when you had what Blake had? All the money in the world today couldn’t buy one single copy that is at Yale. He left behind him five copies of Jerusalem, only one he colored. It is now in Yale University under lock and key. When Blake sold it, I think he sold it for one hundred guineas. That would be equivalent to five hundred dollars when Blake sold it. You couldn’t buy that copy today no matter what sort of money you brought for it. You couldn’t buy it, it’s the only copy in the world. He left five copies, four were not colored. This is the only colored copy that Blake left behind him. It’s priceless.
